Well I went to Cape Girardeau today. Which means I got my Velodyne CHT15:D ! I have not really checked it out yet. But I did throw PM in went straight to the pod race, and DAMN! Even on 3 out of 10. It will blow my old woofer out of the water. Way way out! On quite a few parts I could feel my pant legs shaking. I turned it on five with a local radio stations sounder playing, and I could hear the paralell wall shaking/ vibrating:D Can't wait till I truelly get to test this behemoth out. It trully is a behemoth it makes my fisher floor speakers seem irrelevant. Nearly as big as a end table WITH A 15" driver and 300 watts that is:D

I was able to go ahead and give it some more volume. My wife went somewhere my neighbor came over, and it was on. He asked how much I paid for it I told him. He said it was to much. So I asked if he wanted to hear it. I put in PM and let the new THX intro roll. He instantly changed his mind! We checked out some of the pod race, the depth charge scene in U-571, and a song he likes Enya-Sail Away. This time my windows were shaking loudly. After about ten minutes I turned it down to 25 out of 79 on my 595 and we went outside next to his apartment thinking it was low enough with U-571 still playing we could still hear the bass very well! Break-in will take a while because I can't really listen to it while my neighbors or my wife and her kids are home. But he is moving in 2 weeks and she is moving at the end of the month :D . So I will be able to work towards break-in Quite a bit more then. Oh and my neighbor and one of my cousins are coming over this weekend to watch a movie if my wife isn't home (they hate her but so do I so it's ok). Any suggestions on a movie I should check out I have BHD, PM, Matrix, SPR, and The Fast and The Furious. All of which I have seen quite a few times. So I would like something new. If there is anything real Bassy I can't think of.

    Hey Briancs

I know exactly how you feel, I just got a new Velodye 2 days ago! It's actually an SPL-800, and I love it to death. I've been going pretty easy on it, I know it has a volume limiter, but I still don't want to pound it untill it's loosened up a bit.

. I just watched Swordfish tonight had the sub on like two and a half it shook my couch. Guitarhead what was your previous sub? I love my new one! The THX intro is great. I had no idea how much I was missing with my old woofer. I mean I can truly hear and feel sounds I did not even know were there. Plus my neighbor bought the old woofer off me today. Which means I am no longer almost broke:D . He now has two jensen eights. One with a ten inch MTX poking out of the front. He has a lot better bass now than with just the one, and is completely satisfied. Which is a plus ofcourse. Polkman thank you for the recomendation. I may just have to check it out. Though I did not really care for the first one. But since a fellow polkie recomended it. I shall do a rental tommorow on it. Also I want to rewatch the chest punch in Matrix. On my old woofer it was not at all impressive :( . Lets see what a real speaker will do for it.

Also I have read a couple ppl on hear that don't really care for the CHT series. If I may ask why? Mine seems to be quite acceptable to me. Is it a question of their response, volume, build quality, astetics, or just personal preference?

My first sub was a PSW 250, I just wanted to add some low end to my system. That did for a while.....

Then I used CC's trade up policy to go for a 350. I actually liked this sub for a long time. There was only two things I didn't like about it.
1, there was a mysterious rattle, that was totally unexplainble, and only barely noticable. I replaced the entire sub, but never got rid of it.
    2. The auto on/off feature sucked. There would still be noise from the driver in the "off" position, and the amp would still hum.

Sold that, went to a 550. Smaller driver, but nice sound. The mysterious rattle was still there, and no, it wasn't anything in my system or my room. Decided it just couldn't play loud enough for me.

Finally, Velodyne SPL 800. The speed of an eight, along with the sealed box, and beefy amp proved to be the perfect combination. There's no rattle whatsoever, and the bass is punchy and tight. i love the sound. Of couse, I like the others on this forum, am never content for long, so I'm thinking about getting a second one.

    I'll quickley mention.

As far as CHT versus other Velo's go, they have a completely different sound. The SPL and HGS drivers have a a much longer travel, and the same size driver can go much deeper. Not to mention a sealed box eliminates port noise, and makes things sound a little tighter. Much bigger voice coils, stiffer diaphrams, and more powerful amps don't hurt either. That may be why some prefer others to the CHT.

But hey- it's your system, go with whatever floats your boat.

I have my 15 corner loaded. As to boominess I am not really sure if it is. I have not been into the HT thing for long. I have only had one other woofer which was the jensen. I actually never heard a home surround sound system until I bought mine. So the only real experience I have with audio is car audio. Which I was rather accustomed to till I kept hearing about the utopia of HT. I must say I am impressed! When I do get into a hobby I try to learn as much as possible through reading. So I don't really have the hands on experience as of yet. Do to my quest for information I have realized the benefits of placement, levels, timbre matching, and various sorts of that matter. I can tell in one corner my sub is boomie but fades tremendously throughout the room (boominess that is). I guess my problem is i just have no comparisons from experience to utilize. I can really tell you it slams though. Even with my recent birthing into HT I have been able to help other lesser informed souls.

Ohhh Yeah! About as good as bass movie's get.
briancs, did I hear correctly "Fisher mains". The shame! Not owned Fisher equipment since High School. They made the first 24 cd changer and I went right out and bought it. The loading system went out 5 years later.

hey I was stepping up from a POS shelf system. Plus wouldn't you buy them? At $40 new that is. I am preparing to get a set of RTi70's to rectify the situation. Problem is I have no idea how long I will have to prepare:(
