hi i have a question about pro amps. i have a samson servo 550 just laying around that i used to use to power my rti70's but i now have a HT and bought a denon 2106. i used to have a converter for my samson amp to go from -10 db to +4db (called rolls promatch mb15). my question is that if i bought a consumer preamp would that be able to take care of my difference in signal level or.....? i get a nasty hum/gurgle with this converter so id like to take it out of the equation if at all possible. any options that wont make my wallet explode?

If your AVR has pre-outs, just hook the amp directly to the pre-outs on your avr and use the + - db for your front speakers to adjust the volume level. (assuming you are hooking your amp to power your front speakers)
Should work just fine. When you hook up an amp like that, you usually have it running full power anyway. (the volume is adjusted in your pre-amp for all channels, not at the amplifier)

Just re-read your post. A 2 channel preamp will work just fine to adjust your volume levels. (i.e. just hook it up and you should be fine)Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)
