More than one sub?

I was wandering if any of you guys are running 2-or more subs?
What would be the advantages or disadvantages to this?

I have 2 RT 2000i's with built in subs and would like to try another sub with or without my current ones.

I have two subs. I have found the advantage to be a bigger sweet spot and a flatter response. Not to mention the SPL level..but I keep them calibrated in line with my speakers pretty much.

I don't stack them but they are not in stereo either. They both run off of the same signal fed to them by my Velodyne SMS-1 EQ.

Sometimes it shows up in my posts. Sometimes it does not. I have no idea why that happens. On my computer I only see it once in this thread.

I see yours are matching subs. What I am wondering is two different subs.Say my RT 2000i's and an svs pb-10 together? My mains with the subs are against the wall and no room to move them away from it.I would like to place another sub 20 feet away next to the seating area.

    Thanks

Whenever you run multiple subs not co-located, you run the potential for cancellations. This is one of those things that you just need to experiment with.

Another thing to think about ,too, is localization. You don't really want to know where it is. And anything under 80 Hz is supposed to be non localizing. However, putting a SVS that close to your seating, I'm pretty sure your going to know exactly where the bass is coming from.

from my experience (rt1000p) the built in subs aren't that great and really need some help with a dedicated sub. If you are worried about cancellations etc. , just turn off the subs in the Polks

A friend of mine runs three subs in his home theater. Two up front are from Outlaw and there is one in the back (can't remember what brand it is though). He has them dialed in pretty good and sound great.

Then I get to come home and and my sub sounds like a pos. I need to upgrade!

OK , I have had the cacellation thing wheew that took a while to get rid of. Ive have a 10" sealed a 12" ported and a velodyne 15 under the stairs. I am running a bbe on the 10 and 12. My 15 is 90 degrees outaphase since it is 7-8 feet from the front left and right speaker setup, plus its on the left wall facing the center of the room. The first time I fired them all up it was like no bass at all. Then with some coils and tinkering and hours setting in the lounge chair with my eyes closed listening to everything from cool moe D to bach I adjusted and moved and stuffed untill its pretty freaking sweet. Its gonna come down to your room and many adjustments. Mine has a 17ft ceiling yours may not. I like clarity and I want to feel it as well. Who says 1200 watts is too much is some one that doesnt have it !!!!!!!

PS plus theres not a straight picture in the house muhahahaha !!!! untill I straighten them back up before momma gets home........OH hi honey !

I have a 100W 10" sub in the left front corner of the living room and it is reverse phased. I have a 150W 12" next to
the tv facing the couch and it is normally phased. At half
volume it shakes the house. By reversing the phase of the
corner sub the bass has more punch and is very tight.
One is pushing while the other is pulling. The only way
to know which phase configuration works best for a room
is to try it as room size, shape and position of subs changes everything. Putting a sub in the corner will bring you more bass. This sub arrangement works great with the
M20's as LF and RF. I use M10's in the rear. CSM center speaker.Sweet

This doesn't make any sense to me. If you reverse the phase so they are 180 degrees off you are cancelling a majority of your bass frequency sound waves out. (this is just using basic principles of wave theory, really) Your ears are hearing the result of what didn't get canceled, so I am guessing your subs are working quite hard and you are hearing little bass.

I understand your question Ive had it as well. but its about timming (phase)is it not? If the sub is stuck in the couch ...hmmm and the corner sub is 180 difference. The timing could be close as the sound has to come through the couch yes ? If you wanna be exact a RTA set up in the room will tell you where to dial it in at. It kinda enjoyable to dial it in because you have to sit there and listen to your favorite tunes over and over till you get it.
