HDMI and Video Upconversion. 46AV has a 108 MHz / 10 bit Video DAC and 45A has a 54 MHz / 10 bit Video DAC.

I'm most concerned about the sound. What are the differences in sound?

    Actually the 46AV uses a 12bit 108Mhz not 10/54.

How are u connecting it? analog or digital. If its digital then it will sound identical. If its analog then it depends on your ears.

I have not seen the 46AV. Pioneer would be stupid not to have toslink out. It should have both digital outs

Why is the 46 so difficult to find? It's not even on Pioneers website?

There is only a press release. Pioneer is very slow at updating their website.

Oh so it's actually newer than the 45A? So I should go with the 46 because it essentially offers more in every way.

Of course it is newer. I would just for the HDMI and Video Upconversion. It's also cheaper. I just prefer the look of the 45A to the 46AV.

Thank you so much for helping me out. You have no idea how much of a help you have been. And yes, I think it looks a hell of a lot better. I was concerned thay may have sacrificed something for size. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

I definitely like my Yamaha dvdcx1, but if you don't need SACD/DVD-A, how about getting one of the Toshiba HD DVD players?

Buy the Pioneer, it has one of the best transports on the market. I have a friend who has a small audio shop, he says people are buying those all the time just for the transports, hooking them up with external DACs and they have a top of the line player. I understand the transport in the Pioneer 45 is the same as their much priceier player. Get the Pioneer and one of those $50 DACs people on this Forum have been raving about and you may have yourself a player that outperforms units costing much more!
