Alright, I've finally talked my wife into letting my dig into the piggy bank for an SVS, but before I do does any one know anything else I can try before I go spend a buttload of money on a new sub. I've tried everything I can think of, I've tried hooking it up every different way possible, this seems to be the only thing that really makes a difference but if if I don't use the LFE input I lose all my crossover control on the front channels so I want to try and get away from that, I've tried different crossover levels, putting it on a concrete slab, everything short of moving it around the room which is not an option because the wife wont let me run cables all over the living room floor so where it's at is where it will have to stay, in the front left corner of the room. The problem with the sub I have now is that it has no punch at all it will shake and rattle every thing in the house but there is no punch, which I like, so if there any tricks that I might have missed please share.

I saw your other thread with regards to your new purchase of SVS subwoofer, CONGRATS. Just curious, what subwoofer are you replacing? I have the same feeling on what you have now wherein my current sub don't have enough punch to fill-up my room. I have PSW404 sub and thinking of replacing it but haven't decided which brand.

Get a long sub cable. (this is just a test, wait till the wife is out of the house) - Put the sub in your current listening position and turn on a movie (or music) you like to hear.

The fun part is now you get to crawl around the room (usually along the walls) until you find a spot that gives the bass you are looking for. Now if you change positions with the sub (you get to sit on the couch, your sub goes whereever you were when you heard the good sounds) your sub should be positioned properly.

It may not work there as a permenant location, but maybe you could pull it out (or over) when you want to watch a special movie or do some critical listening.

I love my SVS sub and do highly recommend them if you have the coin, but even an SVS won't make up for bad sub placement.

Just a thought before you spend the coin.

It almost sounds as if your subwoofer is somewhat out of phase as well.

I know the SVS is a really nice subwoofer, but I think the one you have is more than competent.

A couple things that were mentioned in the Velodyne training at CEDIA include moving your subwoofer to the middle of side wall, instead of putting it on the same plane as your front speakers.

Then take time to properly adjust the phase of the subwoofer(something I'm not great at yet).

McLoki's suggestion should be tried as well.

Thanks for the tips guys but your alittle late, no big deal though if I have the same problem I'll just return it and start over,

Gonzalr, it was a Klipsch KSW 15

Mcloki, as far as placement goes here's the problem my set up is a livingroom/HT room so placement is limted, On the left wall is the couch, the back wall is my sons room so i can't put it there, and there isn't a wall to put it on the right because it opens it to another room and from there in to the kitchen, its a very open floor plan. What I'm hoping will help is the SVS will be able fill the space with more sound presure with its larger cabinet and duel 12'' drivers . And the corner I have it in is fairly open I think its about 3'x5' open space so I do have alittle room to move.

Zach, I' ve tried changing the phase on the sub I really can't think of the words to descibe how it sounded but I didn't like it, it was almost like the woofer was blown, but I'm sure there is alot more than ajusting phase than just flipping switches

This is great fun till the wife comes home with the inlaws and finds you crawling on the floor and a speaker on your couch !...yeah explain that ! ;)

Get a Rat Shack meter and do a frequency sweep so you can tell precisely where you problem is.

One more thing, I did some reading over at the Klipsch site and I found several threads there on the KSW15 from guys that had the same problem I had alot of shake and rattle but no tight clean bass, and most of those guys said that the SVS would run circles around the KSW15 but the RSW line would be a different story

alright ran home and done a quick lfe sweep and with my limited knowledge on this I hope it makes since. I hooked every thing back up the normal way with the lfe out from the receiver, frist off the my system is calibrated around 70db the sub is run alittle hot around 80db the crossovers are set to 80hz. The avia lfe sweep starts at 100 hz at around 76hz the sub really starts to pick up and pegs out at right around 100db untill around 50hz it falls off to around 90db and stays there until about 24hz and then completly fall off. i hope this make since I will run another sweep tonight to make sure my readings where correct.
