The damn itch......

What a morning.....
As some of you know, back early spring I sold my recently acquired tube rig to get funds for a bike. At the time it made sense, and it still does; I've enjoyed riding this year after many many years off the saddle.
But, there was something missing...the Dodd MLP, Jolida 100 and the AES Sixpacs coupled with Monitor Audio speakers were so sweet that I ALMOST decided to keep them and sell the 1.2 TL's instead. I love the SDA's, but as I've mentioned it is good to have a "different" alternative.
Well, after grabbing Noel's AL-III's, that damn "itch" that I had not felt for months came back... During the weekend I decided to grab George Daniels' Belles, and I knew that I needed a better source, plus, my Dared tube preamp sounds great with the SDA's, but to match better gear I needed to step up.
So, this morning I looked into Audiogon and grabbed the following:
Bada HD-22 tube CD player; I know Early is extremely happy with it, and the current model already has the Burr Brown OPAMPS (something that he had to put as an upgrade). $415 shipped due to a small scratch in the top-back. (Thanks Early for all the input!!!!).
AES AE3 DJH reference preamp, with one extra output; even though I've not listened to this one, I had and enjoyed the sixpacs, and this little pre has great reviews. I don't think I can go wrong with $710 shipped. Only disadvantage is it does not have remote volume, but not a big deal; hell, I can stand up and walk 5 or 6 feet!!!! Or, pay $300:eek: for having it installed by AES.
I am also going to put a separate rack for 2 channel, only with the new CD player; The XM radio and changer/DAC combo will stay where they are, feeding the Atriums via one of Troy's Dynaco preamps coupled with the Adcom 535, and will also get an input to the AVR for in room listening when needed.
So, soon I will post a few things for sale...this time it will not be a second rig due to $$ and WAF...
Now I'll better do some work....or I'll have to sell everything :D:D

That CDP is gorgeous:eek:
WAF would be a non-issue with that piece.... hurry up and get it and post some impressions.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Very nice. You are going to love those ALs.

Cool. I'd love to read a review for all of your new gear.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Got the MO today, homeslice.
Thanks.
I'm kinda gettin the itch again, too. Big tube power and a killer turntable!!!!
My thinking is the Music Hall MMF5 and Sheng Ya CD-S10 into the McAlister ML-33 pre into the McAlister PP-150 into the SRS2s
Then in the other rig, the modded AMC CD8b into the Jolida SJ-302A into the Monitor 7As
Then in the other rig the a new cdp(yet unnamed) into the Dodd ELP into the PSound HCA1200 II or ASL Wave 20s into the RTA 8TLs.
Damn....that's just insane!!!"SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Wow, you're really racking up the gear! Sounds like you're going to have the whole house rocking, too!
I guess I have the itch, too. I just got back from the audio store. I listened to some Monitor Audio RS6 speakers; I just can't get them out of my mind...I love them!George Grand wrote: »

Those Monitor Audio are great speakers; I had the Silver 8's, which are not as good as the RS line, and they really shined with tubes.....go get them._________________________________________________

Let me know what you think of the ALIII's. lol. Don't you hate it when the audio bug bites you when you least expect it?
Sounds like you're going to have a very nice system. Keep us posted and show pics when you receive them. You still have the Monitor Audio, right?
The damn bug bit me too. I'm going to have a new amp within a few weeks to a month. -
Nope, he sold the Monitor Audio speakers earlier this year, I believe. A new amp, eh? Nice!George Grand wrote: »

Ah. Last time I got the itch, I was ready to get a pair of Monitor Audio bookshelfs, but decided to stop by the aquarium store and buy some nice fish instead (pheew).
Yeah, it's the SET amp that I originally planned to get back in August but ended up with a higher powered SET instead. How's your Parasound? -
Whao, you got fish instead of Monitor Audio speakers? I think someone needs a beating.
SET amp...seems like I remember you posting about that. Should be sweet!
Parasound...the jury's still out on that call. I seriously have *no* idea where I want to go with this rig right now. Tube amp, tube/ss combo for amp, tube pre with ss amp, tube pre with ss/tube combo amp, new speakers, throw it all away and drive off a cliff...:p who knows...George Grand wrote: »

I couldn't resist man. They were too cute. The truth is, I'm completely satisfied with the RF-35.
Go for a Single Ended Triode tube amp man. You'll hear a different side to your speakers that you never knew existed. They're the simplest design when it comes to amplifiers.
Well, if you plan to "throw it all away and drive off a cliff", let me know first. I'll give your gear a good home while you rest in peace:). -
We all get the itch. The key is to know when to stop scratching:DCarl

I'll remember this next time you do a major upgrade;). -
Hehe, I think that's about right. I think I've pretty much decided my next major upgrade should be speakers. Don't know if it will be or not, though.George Grand wrote: »
