What the hell is going on out there?!?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/02/amish.shooting/index.html

I can't imagine it being anymore extreme than this...
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

WTH? Why target the Amish? Seriously? What have they ever done to anyone other than over charge for their furniture? Even Osama wouldn't target them.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Somehow we have become the "I'm going to hurt them and make them pay" society. The bombs, guns, knives, axes, anthrax, whatever are just the tools used to carry it out when someone takes it to the extreme. I see symptoms of it all the time at work. The little nasties carried out in the work place by the younger (and sometimes not younger!) employees in retaliation for things they think someone did to them is scary. And then we get into the way to solve it is to just not make them mad  It's like I tell my kids, I don't make them mad, that is something they choose to do on their own.

I'm with JDH.... What the friggin' hell could have happened twenty years ago (and then proceed to stew over two decades) to lead to this atrocity?

    Against Amish children?!?

Maybe nothing happened. Most likely this guy was just wired wrong, and something seeped into his malfunctioning brain that said "shoot up amish girls".

It will never make sense to any of us, because we don't function on the same level as these kinds of sick people.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Turns out he was molesting children twenty years ago.... and this was his way of "exacting revenge"? If, as they say, his wife knew of this... then she bears some of the responsibility for this atrocity...

I just heard something about him planning to molest them first. They said he even brought lubricant.

If I were to suggest some of the safest places on earth a one room amish schoolhouse in PA would have been close to the top of the list. So much for safe places left to go to.

It is too bad he killed himself. He deserves so much more.

.... deserves much, much MUCH more that we can sit down and try to imagine for him.

I can't even begin to fathom what the Amish are thinking right now. Most (if not all) would not even lift a hand in self-defense, and then this unthinkable act goes down in their backyard?

    Amish children!?!

Grew up around the Amish settlements in Iowa. They are some of the most peaceful, loving, and caring people in existence. They are only guarded and sometimes less than immediately open with outsiders because they want to protect their way of life and what they believe in. However, mess with their children or their women and "turn the other cheek" can be replaced with that "eye for an eye" verse very quickly. Too bad they couldn't of kept the peep alive. In that part of PA I'm sure the local authorities would of been able to find a couple of choice cellmates for the peep, ones that would send an appropriate message :D Even better, hook appropriate of the peeps body parts to a couple of Amish draft horse teams (ie huge Belgiums or Perchirions) and then send the horses in different directions

The community seems to be taking it as a reaffirmation of their core foundation that the world at large has become decadent and evil. At least that's the gist I got from what the Lancaster and York papers reported.

The world in itself is not "decadent and evil" -- it's a very small minority of people that live in the world that are.

Mom was just telling me more about this. She said that a guy, after talking with the Amish community's bishop, has set up an account at a bank where anyone can donate money to the community, seeing as how they don't have insurance to pay for the hospital bills (which reminds me the 6th girl died). The Amish don't ask for help, but the bishop said they would 'humbly accept it'.

The funeral procession of 48 horse-drawn carriages has to pass right by the house of the shooter to get to the funeral home (or grave yard...forgot which).

The Amish community also requested that there be set up an account where people can donate to help the widow and three kids of the shooter. Now, isn't that love? Kinda makes you stop and think.

The guy they are speaking of is in charge of co-ordinating help with huricane Katrina. He said on the radio (on the Michael Savage show) he got to know this Amish community very well because they consistantly volunteer to go in bus loads to help rebuild since the huricane.

Isn't that something. They ask for no help but on the other hand constantly go in bus loads to help ever since the huricane hit.

My wife has followed this story. She said the man picked an Amish school, because he figured he'd have enough time to molest the girls and kill them before the po-po even knew about it, because he figured on them having to travel some distance to find a phone to notify the po-po. Well that all backfired in his face and he didn't get his rocks off, but he did line them up against the blackboard and shot all of them. The eldest girl was 13 and asked the man if he had to shoot them to shoot her first and then an 11 yr old said to shoot her second. Such a sad sad thing. Hopefully, he's getting molested by demons 24 hours a day for eternity.

Here where i live, there are some people who are similar in their lifestyle as the Amish. Very nice caring, good hearted people.

Well last year this older guy crossed the median on a highway (twice) and ran head on into an oncoming truck.. inside the truck were 5 childen and their dad. All 5 children died on the scene, the father survived. The guy who crossed the median has not be charged with anything yet, but will be soon.

My point is.. the dad that lost all 5 of his children, (plus his wife was pregnant at the time) has forgiven the guy in the car who killed all his children in that accident... to the point of even becoming friends.

I guess some people can forgive easier than others.. but certainly should not forget this horrific tragedy.

The driver was not drunk either.. he was sober. Had not be drinking.. it appears he was arguing on his cell phone with his wife when he crossed the highway median.
