Fiber Optic or Component

I have a fiber optic cable connecting my Cable box to my AVR and a Conponent cable connecting my DVD audio to my AVR. HDMI from the DVD to the TV.
Both audio cables are cables I had laying around from previous set ups. My problem is that both are only 3 feet which is JUST long enough in my current set up. I f I have to do anything with cabling I have to disconnect those 2 cables to spin my AVR around.
Should I replace both with longer fiber optic cables and what kind based on the level of my equipment? I obviously don't need the highest quality.

You can see how tight the cables are between the AVR and the Center speaker area.

Hey Scott, I think you are confusing component cables with dig/coax/RCA type cables. Component cables carry picture, that said one component cable as it is a rca type can be used as a dig coax.
Well there are different sides to the story. I use coax in all my connections except for my xbox as it was the only choice (toslink(optical)).
Coax is generaly a tad cheaper than optical and can offer a more solid connection. Optical is better in a sense that it does not pick up interference like a coax CAN. So if you might be running your optical along power cables you would be better off with toslink.
Your other option is to try both in your current set up and find if you prefer one over the other.
As far as quality there are a lot of companies out there. Signal , blue jeans, audioquest. All have products of higher quality and prices very affordable. I know with signal you can have Frank (if that is his name can't remember) make the length you need and by metionning you are a Polk club member you get 5% off. -
Thanks,
You are right about what I need.
I will check out some of those manufacturers.
Tweeter and BB seem to be making huge margins on those type of cables.

They do, but if they are your only choice you can check out AR cables cheaper$$ than monster and not half bad, if you do go for AR look for their AR pro series II, if not their lower line will work just as well. I am guessing you are looking for longer than 3ft?

get longer cables.. 2 meter will help solve your problem.
sit back and enjoy after you get the new cables.. coax digital cables don't have to be expensive.. buy the ones that you like and fit your budget and be done with it. don't fret over is brand Y cable better than brand XPolkFest 2012, who's going>?
