First, thanks for all the members in sharing their expertise/knowledge on a newbie like me.

I have the following system and thinking of making a change to improve it. My system consists of RTi8/CSi5/TC60i/PSW404/Denon AVR2106. I used my system 60/40 for music (mostly listening to radio and CD's once in a while) and movies.

This is what's in my mind and please advise if I'm doing the right move.

1. Buy a 2 channel amplifier to power my RTi8. I've read putting more power to RTi8 will tame the brightness of the sound and more like warm/mellow (is that true?) OR

2. Buy a subwoofer to improve bass response (I know SVS is popular in CP) OR

3. Buy a new receiver like Yamaha RX-V4600 (130wpc), I love listening to radio and this receiver has HD Radio functionality.

I can only do 1 of the 3 options that I listed. Appreciate any comment/feedback.

Thank you.

I think your Denon 2106 is probably going to be better than the Yamaha, but not sure.. i don't own either one.

Buying a 2 channel amp may only make the brightness worse. ... since it sounds like it could be coming from the source. Make sure your bass and treble are set to flat or zero. BUt an amp would help your speakers sound better that's for sure.

Sometimes changing out speaker cables or interconnect cables will help tame that brightness.

Adding a subwoofer would be a good thing.. but it won't help taming the brightness.

If you can demo the Yamaha in your home.. then be able to return it if you don't like it... without any cost to you.. then maybe you may want to consider it.

One last thing.. what are you using to play your CD's on? DVD player or CD Player?

I was just going to buy the Denon 2106 and was talked out of it by the salesmen. I would say he was just trying to get me to spend more money, but he even said to buy the Yamaha RX-V659 before the 2106 or move to the 2306. The installers have been having problems w/ the 2106.
I like my Yamaha but Denon makes great stuff. If you have the room and money go for an amp.

    Thanks for all the response.

Normally when I listened to CD's or radio, I set to pure direct OR direct mode and the receiver will no longer allow to tweak the bass or treble. I will try in stereo mode coz I think I can make the change on the bass or treble.

Also, I'm using dvd/cd combo player to listen to CD's. I will try the suggestion regarding speaker cable, hopefully it will make a difference on the brightness of RTi8.

I'm not too familiar with amp but came across the ADCOM GFA 6002 (70w x 2 channel) for $699 or ADCOM GFA 6006 (70w X 6 channel) for $1,099. Is this a reasonable price and a good amp as well?

    Appreciate again any feedback/comment.

    Thanks,

The weak link in your system is the subwoofer. Start there.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
