Is heat shrink necessary on the bannana plugs and spades on my speaker wire?

Guys,

I like the way my gold bannana plugs look w/o the shrink wrap. Does the shrink wrap serve any significant purpose?

Thanks

It also helps to prevent against shorts, if the two plugs happen to come in contact. On the back of some receivers, this is not too far out of the ordinary.

I checked out Lowes Home Improvement. They have some, but it's all black. I don't mind doing it to protect my equipment, but if possible, I want to make it look good.

Heat shrink is a great idea for the finished product.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
