Finally saved up enough cash and went out and bought a Fuji digital camera yesterday and a Fuji XD 512 MB memory card. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Fujifilm-FinePix-A600-Digital-Camera/sem/rpsm/oid/153629/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
Got it home and snapped a couple test shots and first thing I noticed was this thing is painfully slow! I mean glaciers move faster! Well I figured what do you expect for $200 so I tried to play back the pics Id taken and half of them wouldnt read. So I hooked it up to my compy and tried to download them and some were good but the others were corupted with the top half of the picture to far to the left and right bottom half too far to the right! I would post them but while they would download to my compy, Adobe wouldnt pick them up so I cant downsize them.
So I figure Ive got a bad memory card so I go back to Best Buy and exchange the card. No difference.
So I go back to take the obviously faulty camera back to Wolf. So he slaps in an old style XD picture card and the camera works perfectly! After about 10 minutes of fidgetting with it the salesguy found a line in the back of the manual stating that although XD Type M cards are called for, they may not be compatible with all devices!!! WTF?!
So a Fuji memory card may not work in a Fuji camera?!
Well that ruined me for Fuji. Id bought the camera based on good reviews and the Super CCD. Well I went with the one I shouldve got in the first place and returned the Fuji and got the comparable Canon instead.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon-PowerShot-A530-Digital-Camera/sem/rpsm/oid/146233/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
Not only does it work perfectly, and fits a lot better in my hand, but I was able to get a 1 GB SD card at Circuit City for $25!!!
Took some test pictures around my apartment and they turned out great. Whats even better is that the Canon seems to have a little better PQ than the "Super" CCD. Not a major difference but the Canon seems to be a little better focused.
Nothing great, just some pics outside my back deck, my makeshift trophy case and of my stupid cat. The last 2 pics are a comparison of the same shot between the Fuji and the Canon. The last one is with the Canon and the next to last is the Fuji. All pics were taken with everything set to 'Auto'.

Well, what did you expect when you went out and suppported the ****? As I recall, I recommended you not go with Fuji in another thread. Of course, based on opinions and no facts, but... :D
Glad to hear you like what you ended up with. I have a predecessor to that camera (A80, I believe), and it fills its purpose very well.
Good deal on the SD card, but it was cheap because SD/MMC are on their way out. If you'll ever want more storage, I'd got get another one.George Grand wrote: »

Sucks the fuji didn't work out for ya but glad it worked out. I'd rather go with something that uses sd cards anyways just because I have a couple things that utilize sd cards whereas xd / xdm isn't really popular. I just picked up a 2gb 133x patriot sd card for $50 cdn after tax and am pretty damn happy with it. I tested it with my dslr and it's faster than the sandisk 1gb that Noel sold me a while back.
Just be glad it fritz'd out immediately and not half a year down the roadI woulda taken some pics of speakers... -

In that first pic, did you have to walk out into those green bushy looking things? With your own legs? or did you just send someone out there (cuz that's what I would have done too.....) lol..............comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Im just glad to be back in the digital age again! Film camera are worthless! I spent $20 getting 2 roles of film developed a couple weeks ago that took me months to fill up and for all that, I had maybe 5 shots worth a damn.
Now Ive got to learn all the things I can do with this camera. It has a ton of manual controls from tons of EV, white balance and ISO from 80-800. Now if I just knew what those things were!
As for why there are no speaker shots, its because I dont have any good home speakers. Just some Sony's held over from my super snazzy high end Dolby 2.0 mini system I bought about 10 years ago! And there isnt anything really impressive with my truck either. Everything is in the stock locations! Just call me Mr Excitment!
And those bushy things are right outside my back deck. When we first moved in I loved it because it was all woods back there. Not 2 months after we moved in did they start clearing it all out for those new apartments that are in the pic. Oh well, who needs a view anyway?polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

ISO used to be the sensitivity of the film.. higher speed # meant it was faster.. = better in low light. For most daylight and flash pic an ISO of 100, 200 and 400 are most common
white balance is for different lighting conditions.. indoor/outoor/etc I usually leave mine set to auto.. if not. you could end up with some weird color in your pictures.. usually blue.
for more con/prosumers it's best to leave the setting to full automatic.. you will usually get the best results that way. Digital camera are more complex in what they can do over film cameras as you've just learned. ha ha.
Aaron, you should consider getting a 2 channel stereo home rig put together.. they can be done on the cheap, if you use the flea market and or finding them in your area used.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Cool. Thanks for the tutorial. I think Ill take your advice tho and stick with the Auto setting for most. However I was wanting to take some night pics. I love city scapes especially at night and Chattanooga has some very cool city scenery and I will probably toy with some of that.
Ive wanted one for years but this SQ competition thing has infected me and I spend every spare dime I have with it.
I went all out this season and will have hit nearly 20 shows by Finals but next season Im going to take it easy and do like one a month or so.
We plan on buying a house next year and THATS when Im going to get real interested in a home system!! Kinda pointless having a reference level system in an apartment. Reference level and a 30 db listening level just dont mix!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

They very well may be so challenging they're undesirable among the average joe off the street, but to many 'prosumers', film is irrecplaceable! IMO, of course.
However, I would LOVE to have a DSLR! Solely because of the price of film deveopment. I love the way you can manipulate film, that all affordable, and many expensive digital cameras won't let you do near as well.George Grand wrote: »

Challenging? No.
But when you spend a month filling up 1 role of film, then paying $10 to get them developed and having 4 or 5 turn out worth a crap you kinda figure that was a wasted month and $10. Film cameras are like horse drawn carriages.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
