Yamaha MCX-1000

Anybody know anything about/have any experience with Yamaha's music servers? I'm not interested in broadcasting music in my house with a server or client, but I think the idea of having all your music on a component with a HD is pretty neat, given the playback quality is good.
What makes me think about this is the local tweeter has a MCX-1000 it's trying to sell. It's been on the 'sale' table for at least 6 months, and I really wouldn't be surprised to learn it's actually been a year.
At any rate, the MCX1000 has a storage capacity of just 80GB, but that can supposedly be upgraded. How easy is it to do that? Can I do it? If not, anybody know how much that would cost? I wouldn't be interested in it in the slightest if I can only have 80GB of storage.
Anyhoo, they're asking $398, and while that's still a large chunk of cash, it was low enough to make me stop and look, seeing as how it seems it goes for about $2000 new. I'm not going to spend that much on it, but considering how long they've been trying to sell it and that the top is scratched up, I thought I might keep my eye on it if y'all say it's any good.
So, what'll y'all think about it?

I personally have the CDR-HD1300. It also is 80GB and stores music in an uncompressed format. It's been in use in my system now for about 2 years, and so far I love it. It isn't the most easy to use machine, but seems to more than make up for it in overall quality, and features.
For that kind of money I don't see how you could go wrong.
Also if that model is anything like mine, upgrading the HD is really simple. Just a matter of removing a couple screws on the back cover, sliding out the old, plugging in the new, and use the built in format option. They really couldn't have made it much easier.
Keep us posted!HT

They did a review on music servers in this last issue of The Perfect Vision. I think it faired well enough to drop that kind of dough on it.Tschüss

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm not in a position to drop $400 on something I'm not even really looking for, but I'll keep my eye on it and see if it doesn't come down some more.
Do you know if you can swap out the HD in the MXC1000 like in the CDR-HD1300? If it works the same, that'd be awesome! Maybe I'll email Yamaha abotu that and see what they say. Would be interesting to see if they respond to my email timely...or at all!
cmy330go - Are you still using the 80GB HD in yours? How much music have you been able to store on your unit? In the lossless format?
Thanks!George Grand wrote: »
