Very nice units, SQ HU's all the way. I've heard about reliability issues a little while back, but I would not have any issues running one of those.Alpine: CDA-7949

I own the last quality unit they made. The CD-45z. Was a great radio but it fell victim to the same problem all the other Nak's had. They don't play CD's. I had to use my iPod as an input source. Sounded great for when it actually played CD's though!!!! If you get a unit that can work, it'll be one of the best sounding decks you'll find. The newer models went downhill something fierce.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
Newer stuff is still nice but not what it used to be. It's very expensive and years ago it was worth every penny aside from the CD issue mentioned above. Now, it's not such a value and IMO doesn't really command the price they want. Don't get me wrong, it is very nice stuff but for the same amount of money, I cna get really trick JDM stuff from Panasonic, Kenwood and others from importer sites and will perform just as well as the Nakamichi stuff.
But, if you want all business, understated and conservative styling, Nakamichi has that market cornered. A Nakamichi will almost blend in to the styling of any dash. They are very unassuming and only those who know will know what they are looking at.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Yup! Good to see ya back Rob!
As for Nak, Im with John. Theyre still very nice units but a little overpriced. Id prefer an Alpine of course but Naks pretty cool looking. I like that "sleeper" styling.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

the CD-45Z was better than any Alpine or Eclipse for twice the price in sound quality. To bad they typically had a problem with this lil thing of playing a CD. But if you got one that worked, it was bulletproof. I had one and sold it for an Alpine monitor/dvd combo (only to have the entire car stolen for it). Then when I replaced my Integra's radio with another 45Z, it didn't play a CD straight out of the box. I bought it from a rep directly on the side (for under $200!!!) so I couldn't get it warrantied. The rep stopped reppin' Nak because the new line sucked so bad they didn't want to deal with it. Oh well, you live and learn.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

I have Nak's latest CD500 and it sounds great! The assessment is correct tho. When the cd works (and it supports all types cd/mp3/cdr/cdrw) the sound is phenomenal. The problem is the unit likes to freeze when it is turned off with a cd in the tray and you have to reset the entire unit and all the settings which sucks. Tech support is no help either. Too bad cuz otherwise it blows away my old Alpine and looks good too.
