Best TV Right now?

What it basicly boils down to is to look around and compare all of the sets and see which one you like best. The folks at the BB where i bout my TV had no problems with me spending alot of time there sitting in front of all of the TV's and watching them for a while untill i found the one i liked the best. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on what you should buy. Do the research and go with what you like and will enjoy not everyone else. Best of luck with the purchase and let us know what you wind up with.

I can't wait to see how good it looks after a professional calibration. The only reason I bought it is because Eliab from Avical said it is the best television available out there after calibration.
One other thought-I believe your Samsung is projection and I have heard that the DLP arrays are sensitive to be moved around, so perhaps that is why calibration is critical. If I don't know what I am talking about, disclaimer provided in advance. By the way, I am loving this Sony more every moment. HD rocks!UNIVERA

Shelby, I am also in the market to find replacement for my RPTV. This is one that has "what it takes", provided that I can get a set without any defects:
Sony KDS-55A2000 55"
Looks very promising, and priced right. Check it out...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
That is a nice looking set. I personally am looking to go a bit bigger.

When you are "looking around" make sure that they allow you to use the remote to access the picture menu. You cannot make a good judgement call by simply looking at the picture of the TV as it came out of the box. As Wingnut mentioned earlier, her TV looked awful right out of the box. I know my panasonic came directly from the factory set to vivid mode that can make everything look artificial.
Also make sure that all the TVs you are comparing in the store are running the same signal. I have seen EDTV's being pushed over HDTV because their picture looked similar and were half the price. What they did not tell you is that the two TV's were hooked up to a standard input and not HD line. Once hooked up to a HD signal, there was no comparison in the two.
I am going to restress that the internet is totally packed with very good TV reviews. Write down what you want and then research the TV's that offer you those features. Then check the reviews for picture quality, service history, etc.
I just cannot state with confidence that you can make an educated decision on a TV by walking into a store and looking at the picture. Unless they will let you sit down and calibrate each picture with your calibration DVD so that you can get a one-to-one comparison, there is a good chance that you will select the TV that THE STORE is pushing or has taken the time to calibrate.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

I like your attitude! I have yet heard anyone say, "I sure wish I would of bought the smaller TV."

I'll second the AVS forum to get the best info. Read that for a short while and you will know exactly what to look at for your own specific use.
