$250? Your kidding right. What exactly do you expect to buy?

edit: sorry, I thought you wanted to upgrade all your speakers. Like blue light stated in his thread, you can get r50s for 160 a pair plus shipping. Good speaks.

My family bought my bro the r30's for xmas, he is very pleased with them and I must admit they sound very good for the price.

If I was you, I would not get speakers too difficult to drive as you are using only the yammie to power them. I am not knocking down your AVR, on my main system I did power my rti8's with a rxv540 for a couple months, but the watts indicated are not a true representation of what they actually put out. I am now using my HK which is rated less wpc than my yam but it's a hell of a lot better.
Just keep that in mind when you are shopping for the speaks

with your budget of $250.. i would look at used speakers instead of new...

say an older model pair like the RT600i'. or RT800i's.. with the right seller you could prob get either one with your budget. The RT800i's would be a big improvement over the R series.

here is an example of what i am talking about. this sale was in your area Atlanta. I'm sure these speakers sold for that price.. but email the selle just in case they did not. but good deals can be had on the used market.

    good luck

willow says my Yamaha may not drive R50's well, so would they drive RT 800's. Aren't they better than R series and hence would not be driven well by yamaha??

i can buy R 50 and try, do any of you think i might burn the tweeter as the reviews say that driving R50 with low end AMP would burn tweeter.

you can burn up any tweeter if you push it to hard and with an underpowered receiver.. just don't push it to insane volumes and you'll be fine.

both speakers are easy to drive.. not untill you get into the higher end LSi models are they tougher to drive.

If you like the R50's go for them. I was just making you aware that there are good used deals to be had if you are patient. if not go with the R50's

this question might be silly for most of you, but i am trying to understand this.

say if an AMP of 90W/ch is driving a pair of speakers with 50W-150Wrange, the max the AMP can deliver is 90W per channel, in that case why(rather how) would it burn the speaker or tweeter.

in my point of view, a AMP with 150W/ch driving a 90W speaker would tear the speaker isn't it?

    plz explain!!!

Also, thanks for all the comments guys

    Find a chalk board....write 300 times....Distortion,distortion,distortion....

Cranking on the volume with a low power source, receiver, distortion will rip apart many a good set of speakers.Speaker rateings in watts is a general
guide per say. There is more to it than what the watts are.4 or 8 ohm, speaker eff.In other words, how hard are they to drive?More power is always better than not enoughNow go find a chalk board and get your read on about distortion.

Thanks for all the suggestions, tommy i did end up buying R50's from Fry's for 176(with shipping), they are arriving today.

thought of checking with you guys if there are any special intructions to be followed for speaker connections.

Like i told you guys earlier, i currently have Yahama 5830 (90W/ch) Amp, if i want to upgrade in future what should i consider buying, that AMP should be able to drive my R50's, 1center and surrounds(bose), PSW10 is self powered of course.

    thanks again.

I'm not sure if the R50's are bi-wireable, but if they are you might get more satisfaction from them. I bi-wired my rti6's and csi5 and they just sound so much cleaner. Then again, I just replaced an old carver amp/pre-amp with an onkyo 603...Until I physically hear better, I'm sold on onkyo's avr's.

I think you may have misunderstood. The "R" line from Polk are very easy to drive and you should not have any problems. (of course you can create problems with any amp/speaker combo by just turning it up to loud - but at 90watts per channel you would be playing pretty darn loud to cause issues)

There are a few reasons you will want to upgrade for - want to play louder than you currently can (without distortion), need features that your current avr does not give you (hdmi inputs, more digital inputs, 7.1 surround modes, etc.), Just want something else (hey, sometimes you just want something new).

In the polk lines, you will want to start thinking about upgrading AVR's or amps if you run anything from the LSi or SDA line or many of the larger RTi towers.

Almost any speaker in the R line or the smaller RTi speakers will be fine with what you have.

That being said - if you still want to upgrade the brands that I would recommend are HK or NAD. I would rate them as above the standard, Yamaha, Onkyo or Denon.

    Michael
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

I know everyone on here likes HK, but I had bad luck with mine. I had the AVR330 and was not happy with the quality. My rca jack for the sub pulled out when taking my sub wire off.I was not happy with the sound of the unit at all. The salesmen told me that even though it was 55 WPC it was high current, still seemed week. Not being happy with the unit I took it back and bought a Yamaha RX-v650. I was much happier with the Yammi. Maybe I just had a bad HK but I'm gun shy now.
