DVD Shrink / DVD burning question

I've been using DVD Shrink 3.2 to burn DVDs.

You can select the different parts of the DVD to burn or skip. I usually skip subtitles and always skip foreign language soundtracks.

Last night we were watching a copy of Syriana. I'd deleted all the subtitle files thinking it meant when you turn on ALL subtitles, for example, for the hearing impaired.

However - while watching the movie, there were scenes in which all the dialogue was foreign, and we got NO subtitles underneath to translate. I guess I assumed those types of subtitles were part of the movie file.

SO... does Syriana NOT include English translations of the spoken foreign languages, or did I delete those files when I burned it?

If I deleted them... is there a way to tell in Shrink which files are THOSE types of subtitles(translations of foreign dialogue), and which files are FULL subtitles for the entire movie?

I still have to teach myself how to defeat those certain copy protections that Shrink can't handle. I tried with Decryptor, but I did it wrong....

You can try Any DVD, works for me copies anything so far.

The only wayt o tell beforehand which subtitles are the subtitles you need is to watch the movie, and see which one the DVD player selects as "default", and then when you're 'Unchecking" the subtitles, leave that one. But in answer to your question, a ny time you see text at the bottom of the screen on a DVD, it's considered a subtitle, and therefore has a dedicated subtitle track.

Honestly, I just leave everything that says "English" just to be on the safe side. Why do you have to uncheck them anyways? Out of 4.7GB of data, subtitles tend to be around 4MB. A grand total of less than .1% of the entire size of the disk. Not like you're really gaining anything by not just keeping it on there.

I agree with Bob, cuz I learned this the hard way too.

DON'T EVER REMOVE THE ENGLISH SUBTITLES!

Sometimes there is more than one, I keep them both.
They don't take up very much space and you just never know when you are going to get a movie like Syriana that has subtitled scenes. They are more and more common these days. There is never a separate audio file for those types of scenes.

By the way, I've had better luck using DVDFab DeCrypter. It handles the newer encryption schemes better and it is updated frequently. I don't think DVDDecrypter has been updated since 2005.

Thanks for the replies. I think keeping all the English subtitles is good advice.
