Which one, huh? For a complete 7.1 LSi system - LSi15 fronts, LSiC center, LSiFX side surrounds, LSi9 rear surrounds

I know everybody loves SVS around here and as soon as finances come around (which is starting to progress I'm happy to say) I'll get one and enjoy them my damn self! LOL But anyways, I was looking at Klipsch and seen this sub with 3 12's in a triangular shaped box and 800 watt BASH amp. Now I ask you which one do y'all think hits the hardeset? Here's a link to both subs:

    I know it's a little off topic, but I was looking at what wingnut4772 had in his HT and just happened to come across these bad boys. $150,000! JESUS CHRIST!

    Well, it takes three 12" drivers to take it down to 19 Hz. Seems kinda inefficient to me. In a box that small, I would be real suspicious of why it needs 3 drivers like that. I mean, even in a push-pull design. Is it ported?

    * went back and read*

    So two of the drivers are passive. It's their nitch I see. Seems to me then that that lone 12" powered driver must have to work really hard to budge the other two. And I am sure now that it is sealed. I'd still go for the SVS. However, the Klipsch appears to be a smaller footprint. Tha's a big selling point as opposed to my sub.

    After having two PC-Ultra’s for almost two years, I would recommend any sub with the Ultra driver. Whether you require a PB12-Ultra or PB12-Ultra/2 depends on your room size.

    If you are interested, here is a system with the VR-11 speakers.

    Mr. Lavigne previously had some VR-9 SE speakers in his system, but has sold these to upgrade to the VR-11. I believe he has borrowed some VR-7 SE speakers temporarily until the new ones arrive. There is an address at the bottom of the system description to an article discussing the construction of his room. This proved (for me) to be a very interesting read as I will be modifying my audio room ceiling to utilize the acoustic techniques used in constructing the ceiling in his room.

    I have a Pb12/Plus 2 with the new drivers as well as a Pb12 Ultra/2 and I have to say that for the price difference right now that you can not go wrong with the Pb12/Plus 2. The new drivers put it in a new class .

    If the question is just which one hits harder, definately the SVS. I'd also suggest considering the single driver Ultra subwoofer, because even that is really more than almost anyone needs for home theater.

    The Klipsch may be a better match for music because of its design and room correction. There's also something to be said in favor of it because it's light enough to move around relatively easily and is much, much smaller. It's hard to judge how big the two driver SVS's are until they are actually in the room. If I could get the Klipsch for half its MSRP in cherry, I'd probably go for that one instead of the SVS myself.

    Well.....I understand the SVS, but honestly just for HT cause that's all I'd use the sub for (2-channel I'd just use the fronts, hopefully), would a man really need the Ultra/2? Or could I get away with only a 525 watt amp though? I just dont know....525 watt sub really doesn't seem like a lot of power for a HT though. But is it?

    ^^^ my understanding was that that amp is capable of running much higher than that when it needs to. But since everything is tuned to that driver, 525 sounds like plenty. In the end, it'll be what sounds better rather than the numbers. I know I have never heard anything like my own SVS sub and I have owned several other brands. It's so powerful that I get to barely use it in my townhome!!

    The funny thing about this thread is that I bet not one has even heard the Klipsch sub and people are still voting SVS. Now, I've had SVS in the past, but we have to keep an open mind on the numerous other subs out there.

    I say, it's too hard to tell unless you've had both in your room.

    As for me, the 3 driver design on the Klipsch seems to be a copy of the Martin Logan Descent (and now the Descent-i)... so it doesnt seem too revolutionary to me. I'm not sure if the Klipsch is sealed, but if it's trying to follow in the footsteps of the Descent, it probably is sealed with a near null central area so as to not let sound waves escape unused.

    I've heard the PB12+/2.. and it was an OK sub. I've heard the Descent and that was a better sub overall. Now, this is between a PB12U/2 and the Klipsch (pseudo Descent by the looks of it).... so I'm not sure which is better.
