Does the $1500 include a receiver?

If that is just for the speakers, here is a possible setup:

    RTi8
    CSi5
    FXi5

    RTi6 fronts
    CSi5 center
    FXi3 surrounds

Would be around $1000 with the current sales at crutchfield.com and free shipping.

I'd add the $430 10" sub from SVS to round out a nice $1500 set.

I guess I forgot the sub. In that case, I would go with the 6's and the SVS.

if he can stretch it just a tad bit I would bump the 6's to 8's and either add the PB12-NSD or PB10-NSD, both end just a tad bit over the 1500 bucks. If he can swing it that is, if not then the recommended setup adam2434 mentioned would be nice little setup also though.

    Troyd,

I am not sure of the exact model. He has had it forever and it all still works.Carver reciever with 4 floor standing old infintity speakers and it still sounds great with music.

You guys are a great help and I do appreciate it.How about a reciever for the system around or under $800.00?

    Thanks again

This HK receiver can be had for around $700 for a refurb.

I personally like HK mated with RTi's.

    Adam,

The HK would be my first choice as I own a older AVR 55 and love it.

    Thanks

If he wants to upgrade for music I would consider other options than receivers.

    Good point.

When I first read the word "upgrade" in the 1st post, I was taking it to mean "expand to surround sound capabilities".

The options folks have suggested will do that. However, there's a chance these systems would not upgrade 2 ch performance over what the guy already has.

ntg, you might want to make your buddy aware of this if he's really more into 2 ch. He may find that he wants to keep his old 2 ch system and build a system specifically for HT. Another option would be to build a system over time (more money) that would upgrade or maintain 2 ch performance and have surround capabilities.

    Thanks guys,

He does not listen to music near as much now and I was assuming that a decent av reciever would still sound fairly well on music. He has recently got married and they also want the extra room that the 4 large infinity speakers are taking up.

So I will take any suggestios that you guys have to offer. This is a great forum and I have learned quite a bit already.

The only problem is I now am getting the upgrade bug!
