after mowing the lawn, washing the truck and doing the saturday cleanup thing. I showered and decided to hunt some vinyl down.. went to my local huge goodwill "center" these are huge now.. not the smaller places they used to use..
go to the junk room, and behold hundreds of records.. only bad thing was they were standing up side by side and on a lower shelf so i had to take a stack out, look and put back, hold my place with something and move to the next 30 or 40.. ended up with 21 total, some for fun to try.. some good music to jam to.. all and all, happy..

and so i seen no prices, so i was like lets ask before we tote all these up front and find they want 4-5 bucks each..
found a sign, records .25 cents... SCORE!!! so they charged me 5.00 for 21 records..

My wife even is getting in on the vinyl fun.. she got "the sounds of music" got the kids a disney its a small world and some others.. after that i hunted down some old record shops we have in the old district area.. were closed but figured they might have cleaners and brushes.. so that's my next venture.. I found 3 shops all in a strip mall type thing..

So a good day for hunting

Good stuff . . .my wife and I not 1/2 hour ago were out getting some pork & steak standwiches and past a Good Will Outlet store. . . my wife was commenting on the fact that now they have "outlet" stores. I'll be running over there tomorrow to see if I can score some LPs. I am a vinyl junkie. Thanks for the tip.

You sound just like me about 6 months ago...I've slowed down considerably though since I'm up to about 700 albums and have run out of storage space. Have fun with it!

The vinyl is cheap fun, i have about 35 lp's now already..

I guess being 21 years old I was neglectful in thinking people still wanted Vinyls.

I work for 1-800-Got-Junk and do cleanouts all the time where I end up with 100+ vinyls. I always just toss them away not thinking anyone wants them(nor do I want to store them)

I have probably seen 1000+ vinyls pass through my hands from peoples homes that I have cleaned out. Is there major interest in these? I could possibly hold them and list them on here if people were interested.

my special Good Will no longer puts out the "good" electronics.. I think they either don't accept it or they are moving it somewhere else for better prices.

In the past few years i've found some good deals on my GW.. but not anymore. I no longer see any decent pieces of vintage silver faced gear that used to last year. I got a pair of bookshelf Speakerlab speakers in mint condition for $8 last year. this year all they got are **** looking Fisher, Sony, and the like.

agreed, last year i was finding all kinds of neat stuff.. then they expanded to a large back room for all the junk, and electric stuff and now its all mostly junk and some high prices.. But the vinyl is a quarter so i can't complain now.. :D

Glad you found so many LPs. I've found that a lot of the choices in my area are too scratched to even consider. I've been averaging about 2 records per 100 looked through. Prices have been averaging about 1-2 bucks a pop. Seems reasonable to me. I've just got to be patient to get the good ones. Sounds like I've got some competition.

You are sitting on a gold mine. There many many vinyl junkies left in this world, the shear amount of us would freak you out. If you got vinyl, I guarantee you'll move them. Start a new thread and see what other more forum savy people suggest.

It's not that they don't put it out. They don't get the good stuff any more.
Ebay changed all of that. Either it goes straight to the bay, or resellers combing all the garage sales and "will buy old electronics for cash" ads
    have grabbed it all.

I have two goodwills close by. One wants 75 cents each, the other wants a dollar each. Every week I stop by and see whats in. It is not uncommon to find 20 to 30 keepers each time. Maybe 30% of what they get in looks totally unplayed and maybe 40% has some signs of play, usually a fingerprint or something. Of course you can always find a few that have been water damaged, really scraped and yes, even a few that have been puked on. My best finds have been stuff I had no clue what it was. I've found that to be the best part of lp collecting. If you think of it, even if you got 14 totally useless no talent lps and one good one, you are doing as well as normal when buying new CD's. I've only been stuck with a few I totally disliked.

One thing to look forward to faster, the better your equipment gets, the quieter the records become.

A co-worker of my wife's just gave me two crates of LPs, today. Mostly 70's rock, too. Can't wait to see what I got. Now if I can just get my table to keep speed. That or I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a new table.

Very cool Cliff. At 25 cents a pop, just grab whatever and grab a lot. Sell the ones you don't like. Here's a good chance to discover other types of music you may not have known existed.

Something I learned a long time ago. . . if the sound system is good, and the recording is good, and performance is good, I will like the music no matter what it is. I have heard some music that I really, really disliked. When listening to the same music with the above standards I found myself changing my mind about that genre.

Me too. However, there's still some types that I can't get into (rap/hip hop, dance, techno, electronics).

I just started my dive into "world music" and it's nice to have my system take me on an adventure to far exotic places:cool:.
