We're converting to microwave/fiber and pushing the LEC out of a majority of our sites, but the current backbone is certainly copper.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

How do you think Cell Phones or anything for that matter works? I can tell you if the cell sites worked the CO was operating, and most likely making their own power doing it.
Or do you think cell sites work just by being in the field they don't connect to anything just work from thin air.
Steve,
Sorry if I confused you . I tend to do that a lot. Even confuse myself sometimes.
I understand how cell phones work. I am not saying that they were connecting to just thin air. I was stating that the actual lines for the landlines were taking down by the storm surge and thus there was no way to transmit a signal to any of the homes even if they had a home to connect to. On the coastline, all the actual phone lines for the landlines are above ground due to the high water table under the ground there. Water came in. All lines connecting power, phone service, and cable wash out. Hope that clarifies why we used cell phones to communicate and also the reason that landlines were down even though the MTSO was operational.
Brett,
Thanks for your tolerance with my ramblings and good luck on your phone choice.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

So Mark, how is a cell site trunk getting back to a land line without the LEC path? Taking must calls are to land lines not to other cells within their own network. Or is this just for Nextel's sites?

It's a OC3+ fiber hub at any given cell site and it subsequently serves X amount of cells, from that hub, via microwave. It was a Sprint PCS venture, but I'm sure that it will serve the Nextel folks as well. The fiber varies as to ownership but is probably predominately Verizon in this market.
It's just more crap for me to deal with along with the launch of WiMax. Mark,
I assume that you're talking FLM150 or OC3+ mux, but also assume theres some LEC drop off on these rings.
