Speaker Cable Lengths???

Can I run a different length of speaker cable to my surrounds? Left surround will be 12 feet and right surround will be 25 feet approx. Will it make a difference? Also what gauge should I use for a medium HT set up?

Go with at least 14 Ga. It might not make an audible difference, but I like to keep the runs the same.

Equal wire lengths are preferred, but not necessary. Since the electrical signal travels VERY quickly (as in at or near the speed of light), you would need hugely different lengths to get into audible phase differences

From a post at the AVS forum:
"Light travels at 186,000 miles per second and waves travel through copper wire at about 70% of that speed, or 130,200 mps. This equates to 468,720,000 mph.

Sound travels through air at approximately 700 mph. Therefore, the waves travel through the wire 669,600 times faster than through the air. Once the sound leaves the speaker, it is travelling significantly slower.

Having your ear .01 inches closer to one speaker is like having one speaker wire 558ft longer than the other (.01 x 669600 / 12)."

It won't change much if anything. ON top of that when calibrating your system you should have an option in your set up for delay if it's an issue.

No its not going to make a difference, enjoy your system. Now if it just bugs you to no end make them the same.

your ears would let you know of no important difference.
