One more question... What makes your speakers hiss(no bigbluelight, Im not talking about cats:D)? When I had my 603, my speakers always hissed even when I turned the volume all the way down. With my H/K, my speakers don't hiss at all...

Most likely noise from the amplifier in the Onkyo receiver.

Even though your HK may be quiet, if you used a separate 2 channel amp the sound would continue to improve. The hiss or lack of, demonstrates the benefit of a better amp. You just proved it to yourself that a separate amp would benefit your sound quality.

The point i was making was that an entry level reciever that on the used market is worth maybe $150. Was not going to make a giantkiller "mid-fi" preamp in the first place. HK and Onk ARE Apples and Oranges. HK does not really sell entry level units to the masses like Onk does.
MY flagship Onk's ROCK. Like i stated earlier, HT mag just reviewed an entry level Onk and it got a 93%. That says alot in itself............. More so "bang for the buck" over most of that market.

Wait, im confused. You are saying entry level onkyo (proven by HT magazine) is the best "bang for the buck" on the market right? The reciever I had was the txsr603, retail-$500. The avr240 retails at $600. You consider the onk entry level and the h/k isn't?

I would love to get a 2 channel amp right now and would show the full pontential of the m50s. The problem is when I upgrade with much better speakers, the h/k won't be able to power the center and rears... and I'll be forced to sell it and get a 5 channel amp. If I was guaranteed a great paying job right now I would buy a 2 channel amp, but.......... I won't lie to you, Im poor:( :o .

No, Onkyo sells much more units to entry level consumers. Also did you notice the HK produces much less wattts over the ONK. And I don't even have to look up the specs. The HK WILL produce cleaner power. That is why I run these little things. My flagship Onk makes an awesome preamp though. Still confused?????
