Sewer backup YUK!!!

It is Sunday morning at 10:00 AM, we are setting up for my daughter's 4th birthday party. My wife yells that the main level toilet is overflowing. I snake it and everything appears OK. 10 minutes later it happens again. I turn the water off and decide to deal with it after the party. A little later I walk by the bathroom and see the toilet water bubbling. Then all this sewage comes pouring out of the toilet. I grab a bucket and start pailing out the crap. It stops aout 3 minutes later. I go downstairs to check on the ceiling, where my projector is mounted. Water is pouring out about 1 foot from my projector. I then realize the carpet is soaked. I open up the furnace section and see that the drain is pouring out sewage. I call roto rooter and they clean the main drain. Luckily, the water and sewage didn't quite make it to my SDA's and HT rack. I check my homwonwers insurance and to my surprise, I have sewage backup coverage. I call State Farm, they send out a company to remove all the carpet, wet drywall, floor moulding, treat the wood and floor for any bacteria and mold. They told me to get everything fixed or replaced and they will pay everything over my $500.00 deductable.
So, what started as a major catastophy turned out to be an incovenience and I get new carpeting through out the basement.

Now I need opinions on paint and carpet color. I have 2 rows of green theater seating and a green loveseat and couch. I might replace the loveseat and couch. I do have 4 children, so I will probably go with a darker color carpet.

Check your homeoners insurance, I belioeve it cost around an extra $30.00 a year for this coverage.

With 4 kids in a high traffic area, I'd go with a multi-patterned berber, in sort of dark tans. It will wear great, and hide stains, AND hide all sorts of bits of dropped food from family movie nights.

Maybe that isn't THE best "HT" recommendation... but my HT really gets used by my entire family, so it needs to be family-friendly.

Didn't realize Polkies were now interior decorators:) In any event, I agree with berber. I had berber installed in my new house a year ago and it is remarkably forgiving. I have a cat that coughs up regular furballs and associated items that are sometimes in a room I don't frequent often. Even after days or even weeks, super hot water and a clean rag clean it up with no sweat. FYI, the carpet cleaner guys say that there is no need to Scotchguard acrylic based carpets and that you are just wasting money. Can't verify that, but a berber with some shaded colors mixed in works great.

Most carpets have an application of Scotchguard straight from the factory. It's one of the last steps in manufacturing
