New Music!!

Well, I've got a lot of new (to me) music to listen before; mostly groups I've never really listened to, and a good bit I've never heard of before! I bought about 80 or so cassettes from a guy on the Klipsch forum, and UPS just delivered them today.
One good prop for UPS: the seller put the wrong address on the box. That address didn't exist, and it was probably pretty obvious what it should have been, given that we have the same UPS man and he delivers a lot of packages and might perhaps recognize the last name, but at any rate...the seller emailed UPS the correct address and the package arrived perfectly fine on the originally scheduled date of delivery. I'm happy!
Here's a list I've compiled of the cassetes: (and now it's alphabetized!)

So, there's 82 cassettes mostly of music I've never heard before. While tapes don't offer high-fidelity, I figured for $45 this would be a great introduction to a lot of different bands/groups/artists.
What do y'all think? What stands out? What does it make you think of? What do you remember when you read some of these titles? What's best? What's junk? What's worth something (haha!)?
And, more importantly....what should I listen to first?!?!
Whenever I feel motivated, I'll probably make that list alphebatized...

Lots of good choices in there, guess it depends on your mood.
These would be my choices to listen to first :
AC/DC - always great, especially for working out an dstuff like that,
The Allman Brothers Band - I love the Allman Brothers, mostly for nostalgia purposes, as I used to go to their concerts 2-3 times a year when they came around to the Tweeter Center. Outdoor venue, sitting on the lawn, nice relaxing jam band type stuff.
Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker has some good stuff, although I like some of their other albums (Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, Amorica) better. If you like Monye Maker, I definitely recommend investing in those two albums.
Blind Faith - basically a group made of the best musicians of the time, put together at once. Only like 5 songs on the one album they made, but... great stuff.
George Thorogood and the Destroyers - George Thorogood has some great drinkin music, although I don't recognize any of the songs on either of those albums, so... not sure how to feel about that.
Hendrix - Listen to the full Voodoo Chile on Electric Ladyland. That guy could just make a guitar sing. Also like "Crosstown Traffic" on that album.
Led Zeppelin - so many great songs on those two albums, including my all-time fave Zep song, "Since I Been Lovin' You" (maybe tied with the Rain Song).
Queen - I like some Queen stuff, but the two albums you got aren't really a good set....
U2 - the entire second half of The Joshua Tree is a masterpiece. The first half is overplayed sappy crap at this point, but starting with Running to Stand Still... just perfect stuff.
Enjoy teh new music! If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Thanks for your comments! I'm glad you said that about the Robert Cray Band...probably would have been one of the last I would have listened to. Pete Townshend - same with him.
I'm on to Stevie Wonder now...GREAT stuff. I LOVE Superstition.

I've never listened to AC/DC...that will be interesting. I can't wait to listen to Jimi Hendrix, as he's AWESOME, but *I* don't know that as I don't really know a thing about him.George Grand wrote: »

Nice pickup AB! Cassettes are dirt cheap and obsolete, they are a great buy to hear some music that you're not familiar with or just want to hear. I bought over 200 classical cassettes recently for $5. Sound quality is not as good as CD, but very tolerable in many instances. Enjoy!Carl

Ha ha...:D
I'd forgotten about Dread Zeppelin....
Talk about a blast from the pastI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Thats quite a range of music..
From The Who to Nugent to Cinderella to AC/DC
Personally Im an 80's junkie (my heyday)...so seeing Cinderella, Kix, Great White, and Poison in that group made me smile
Plus ACDC rocks..
Actually most of that selection rocks..!:DPioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub -
Are these pre-recorded studio cassettes or are they recorded from other sources on good tape? If they are the former the SQ probably sucks. If the latter the SQ "could" be pretty good depending on the source and equipment used. I have some cassettes I recorded from vinyl and CDs that still sound good.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - In Step - The album that introduced me to SRV and I am now a huge fan.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping - an underrated album that is very good. Street Suvivors isn't too bad either.
Lou Reed - Rock n Roll Animal - The American precursor of punk and glam rock when he was with Velvet Underground. This may be the album to own. "Sweet Jane' alone is worth the price of the album."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible." - Stuart Chase
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
They are all pre-recorded cassettes, with the exception of Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. which he appears to have copied to a cassette himself.
Yes, I am now a fan of SRV and Stevie Wonder. Is there any relationship between those two?
I'm rockin' to Jeff Beck Group (self-titled) at the moment.George Grand wrote: »

Electric Ladyland - Bobman nailed it. Everybody loves the short Voodoo Child (slight return). Real men listen to the "live in the studio" long version with Steve Winwood on organ, and the other guy from Traffic too. The other real long song, "1983, A Merman I Should Be" are the absolute highlights of that album. Rainy Day and the sequel, Still raining are excellent also.
Beggars Banquet - The Stones WISH they could make another album like that one.
Little Feat's Hoy-Hoy gets honorable mention. -
Thanks for the info, GG. I'll have to play some Jimi Hendrix before class today. I hope I have time.
George Thorogood is pretty good, too.George Grand wrote: »

Hanoi Rocks' version of Up Around The Bend is pretty good. The Doors starts to really shine when you play it hi-fi, some of the songs are not that great on low end system (or cassette) but on hi-fi system played loud, OMG! Like said, for Queen, definately pick up something else. Vital Idol by Billy Idol is one of my favourites from the 80's.

WOW !!!!! Great stuff!!! I am extremely envious. You have some extraordinary classic stuff! I can't believe you are just turning on to Stevie Ray Vaughan. He's gone, but he can still raise goose bumps. . .
Here is a new one to try that my 23 year old son turned me onto is:
"Maroon 5"
Great music, great performance, great recording, the lead singer can really belt it out and they have their albumn on vinyl as well as CD. -
Well, a year and three days after the last post in this thread, I'm reviving it.
I've listened to maybe about 10 of these cassettes off and on in the last year, but I've yet to really explore them all. And they've still been sitting in the box they were shipped in all this time.
Not any more. Now they're all arranged alphabetically in a drawer in my room, and I'm home alone for a week, so I'm going to go through as many of them as I can! I should probably make myself NOT play any of them twice this week, no matter how good it is, just so I can get through them all...but that might be too hard.
Right now I'm rocking out to AC/DC - High Voltage, and it is really good.George Grand wrote: »

Of course, I trust you have already listened to the Zeppelin.God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8 -

ah, it is so good to see a southern boy find his roots. great music, especially some good southern rock like allman bros., black crowes, and of course skynyrd. of course living in nc you are required to know almost all skynyrd songs by heart. and welcome to the world of srv as well. one of the greatest guitar players of all time period.
