I-tunes merge??

I'm not sure where to ask this question...

I have a laptop (my work computer) and a desktop (home computer) that started out with the same I-tunes library (I copied the library off my desktop to the laptop. Since that time I have bought and ripped different songs on to each computer. I really don't have an easy way to know which computer has which songs now, but want to merge the libraries.

Does anybody know how I might re-combine these libraries and avoid any duplicates? Anything from a file utility to some kind of I-tunes plug in or something like that????:confused:

Assuming the naming was done the same way on both computers you could just copy the files from one over the top of the other and say "yes" to overwriting the duplicates. That should leave you duplicate free.

There may be another way, but that is all I can think of with my Pre-morning coffee brain.:D

iTunes itself may have some way of doing this. I can think of hack-y ways, but nothingr eally clean...

For example, you could copy all of the songs from one computer to the other, add them all to iTunes, use iTunes "Show Duplicates" option to delete all the repeats, and then use that new set as your "master copy".

Or, if you knwo what date you originally did the copy, just sort your library by add date, and everything after that original date is new and should be copied to the other PC. That's the cleanest way I can think of....
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That is what I started doing. I was hoping there was some slick and easy way since I ended up with mountains of duplicates.

I may just do a file copy as suggested earlier, blow away the itunes database and rebuild playlists.
