The Media Missed this one!!!!

Please read this, then send it to everybody you know.

They'll thank you as they forward this to others as well.

Subject: Denzel Washington, and

Brooks Army Medical Center

Don't know whether you heard about this

but Denzel Washington and his family visited

the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in

San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This

is where soldiers who have been evacuated from

Germany come to be hospitalized in the United

States, especially burn victims. There are some

buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher

House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay,

for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying

in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses

on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled

most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave

him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how

much one of them would cost to build. He took his check

book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there

on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear

this story and want to get the word out to the American

public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does:

Alec Baldwin,

Madonna,

Sean Penn and

other Hollywood types

make front page news with their anti-everything

America trash and Denzel Washington's Patriotism

doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of

any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San

Antonio.

A true American and friend to all in uniform!

This needs as wide a distribution

as we can create.

GOD BLESS YOU DENZEL

FOR YOUR PATRIOTISM,_._,___

This was sent to me by a friend. The pics didn't showup and I'm not sure how to put an email on here so I just cut and pasted it.

I've always admired Denzel's acting and now I can say that I truly admire the man, too.

Looks to be mostly factual. And I could really care less that it was a year or two ago. The point is that the media didn't seem to jump all over this story like they would have if he had protested the military.

Snopes said December 2004. He had visited the facility before, in 1988, while Shooting the movie "GLORY".

The media didn't jump all over it because this part is a COMPLETE LIE:

Okay, I give up. He sucks. He should have just bought himself a new Bentley or beach house somewhere.
According to the Fisher House Foundation, when Denzel Washington was at Fort Sam Houston in December 2004, he did visit its Fisher House and learn of their need for additional facilities, and he did later make a substantial donation to the Fisher House Foundation; however, he did not, as described above, "get out his checkbook" on the spot and write a check for the full amount needed to construct a new building:
The problem, according to Fisher House President David Coker, is that while Washington did make a 'sizeable' donation to the program, the e-mail claim is almost entirely bogus.

"Denzel came to visit with the soldiers and Marines being cared for at Brooke Army Medical Center last December 17th," Coker said. "He visited with them and told them how much he respects their service. He also toured one of the two Fisher Houses at Brooke Army Medical Center."

Washington told Coker at the time he would like to make a commitment to support the work of Fisher House.

"Denzel did not take out a checkbook and write a check on the spot," Coker says. "He seldom carries a check book with him."

Coker said Washington did in fact make a sizeable donation to Fisher House several months after his visit to BAMC. He declined to comment on the size of the donation, but it was not enough to build a new Fisher House.

[Coker also] said the fact that Washington, 49, did not write a check 'on the spot' does not diminish his contribution to the Fisher House and his support 'for the men and women who serve our country.'

The fact that the story was embelished for flare is nothing new. Denzel still did something good, and good things are allways worthy of note.

I'll say this though, the reason the Media didnt pick up on it is in no small part because Denzel didnt do it for the media coverage. Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, Madonna = media whores. Denzel was just a guy with a sh*tload of money who found a good cause to throw some money at, for reasons of his own. hey, god bless him for it.

While snopes points out that the donation was not enough to cover a fisher house (1.3 mil) and not on the spot, he still made a "sizable" donation. The Fisher foundation probably isnt saying the amount becasue Denzel doesnt want them too, again, it isnt why he did it.

I have a feeling that again, while the donation wasnt 1.3 mil, I'm sure it wasnt for 50 bucks and a Dunkin Donuts coupon either.

I think it is a good thing when someone donates their money like he did.
I think it sucks for people to distort the story to make it sound like more than it is.

I found that a lot of my e-mails look like propaganda lately. They talk good or bad about political figures just for political gain or loss.

I never know what to believe without fact checking.

I also don't believe that an e-mail petition with 2000 alleged signatures is going to have any effect on our political system.

I certainly commend the donation that Denzel made, whether it was $1.3M or $1300, and I can respect the fact that the true amount has not been divulged. The point is that he made a sincere gesture to a very worthy cause.

    Damn fine actor too.

I agree about checking the facts - just too damn much vitriol masquerading as legitimacy on the net these days....

I also agree that if something akin to this happend involving more liberal stars it would have been plastered all over the MSM evening news.

And just to beat this spam up more. What newspaper has had Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn or Madonna on the front page expressing anti-war views since we invaded Iraq? None.

I like Denzel. Not just as an actor but as a person. He gives alot to charity and doesn't make a big deal out of it. He's very involved with reading programs for inner city youth.

Denzel is cool. He doesn't like the whole Hollywood thing. You'll rarely see him at a party or other function just to be "in the crowd." He's an accomplished actor at the top of his profession and he gives his money to good causes, too? And he's still married to the same woman? In Hollywood, that's great.

I love how some of you are bickering over the particulars of the email, l ike little children. Noel's title said hats off to Denzel, and I think no matter which side of the political spectrum you lean towards, that is a valid response to a generous and kind act, even if the facts of it were embellished.

As for what you hear about in the media, I don't think the mainstream media really reports any of this kind of thing. The Sean Penn stories are usually heard on more of the "entertainment news" side of things, not on CNN or the serious news outlets, so saying any of it is "front page news" is kind of stretching that side of it too. Let's just say hats off to Denzel for doing something nice and leave it at that :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Even if he made NO donations I would still take my hat off to Denzel.

Most of hippywood lately is too busy making movies about how terrorists are people too and the actors are too busy going over to Iraq to show how nice a guy Saddam really is and basically doing NOTHING to support the health or morale of the troops.

Im damn glad to see when any of them put their politics aside and try to spread a little cheer to our Best and Brightest when they could use it most!

You have to set an example even in the face of stupidity. Everybody who reads comic books knows that the Kirby Silver Surfer is the only true Silver Surfer. Now am I right or wrong?

Of course Kirby came up with the whole surfboard thing, but Buscema's surfer had more thoughtful stories scripted by Lee.

I liked when surfer's relationship with the Thing's girlfriend, Alicia, got the Thing all pissed off.
