k well just orderd my mm2154 svc subwoofer today 400 watts rms. and im debating on what amp to get considering when i get the money im getting another mm2154

first choice is a profile ap1000 putting out 480 watts rms X 1 at 4 ohm and will get another after i get the second sub

or

profile ap2000 pumping 320 watts X 2 at 4 ohm and will just get another sub later and add to the amp.

and if i get the ap1000 will i also need to get another amp kit to go with it as well or is there any way i could hook up two amps to my four gauge amp kit. amp kit says it handles 2500 watts

thxxx

sub is going in a 2.0 cubic foot speaker box if that matters any. the sub calls for a 1.5 but im dumb and built it to deep:( :(

Try the "On The Move" section...below.

The 160 watts will only make a couple of db difference, but I always try to buy the most I can afford the first time around to give me a sense of a nice stopping place and it helps to avoid losing $$$ in the upgrade path. Every piece you buy new and sell used costs $$$ that can be used later.

Buy the best you can afford, each time you purchase even if you have to wait awhile.

well i know that. to buy the best i can. but what would do better. go with the ap2000??

then when i upgrade i could get a second one and run the bridged at 960 watts rms and have 2 3000 watt max subs??

It is your choice, I don't think you'll notice much difference.

For comparison, lets say you get 90dbs from 1 watt in your car. It takes twice the power to move the sound up each 3 decibels (db).

    93 db = 2 watts
    96 db = 4 watts
    99 db = 8 watts
    102 db = 16 watts
    105 db = 32 watts
    108 db = 64 watts
    111 db = 128 watts
    114 db = 256 watts
(Your 320 watt or 480 watt choices)
    117 db = 512 watts

Somewhere between 114 & 117 dbs lands both of your amp choices, so I doubt that your ears can hear the difference in the 1.5 dbs between the amps.

The same is true of doubling of speakers. It only adds 3 db of spl.

The cars tight environment and box design have way more to do with how much spl you get than amp power, so choose the one you want, there really isn't a best choice. A great 100 watt amp matched with the right woofer and box placed properly will yield more spl than a high powered amp with a poorly designed box. Simply turning a box around in a trunk to face the rear, adds as much spl as 4 times the power.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that you won't go wrong with either choice, so choose what fits your car/budget best.
