Finally got to listen to some tube gear and liked what I heard. Troy D has a great setup. Smooth and ultra quiet. Quiet was probably the biggest thing I noticed. Best performance goes to a FAT Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters disk. Widest soundstage I've ever heard. I believe the keyboardist was playing in the side yard:)

Thanks to Troy and Dave for their input. If I could have any one thing from Troy's house, it would be that Sunfire preamp with the tube window. Those babies glowing in there were flat out cool! I'd put in by my bed and just stare at it...Perhaps even touch myself....:D

A REAL pleasure to have Lee over.....super nice guy. Welcome here any time. Inner core type. Kinda skinny though. Definately needs to double up on the rations to hang out with this group. :D

We had a blast putting the 2.3tl's through the paces. Hell, we didn't even get into the AR9 rig. Next time, amigo!

I'd like to think of it as physically fit, if you would. Putting on the extra lbs. would be a bad financial move in terms of my professional career. I did eat some greasy chips....

?????????? Forgot to mention that Troy sent me home with some MIT cables and speaker wire to try. Hometown hospitality at its best. I wonder how much I can get for them...:D

How are tubes on 1.2 TLs? I've never listened to a tube amp. I always thought they were just pains in the butt, but I hear the technology has really changed. Unfortunately I can't afford a whole lot right now (putting a bid on a new home tomorrow) so I am working on buying a couple of Adcom 565s on audiogon. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?ampstran&1160313327 I am a little leary about this transaction, the seller says he'll accept paypal in the ad but wants me to pay 3.5% more. Plus he claims not to have a camera so no pics of the amps or the upgrades. Any advise????

I'm glad you felt this dude out Troy, as I had a good feeling about him from the start :) I don't mean that literally....
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I've got to rethink this whole having people over thing. :D

I don't buy a damn thing without pics, that's my advice. The company(Musical Concepts) exists, but does he have proof the mods were completed? The Paypal thing thing is because of his account w/ Paypal, not uncommon.

Take it into another thread if you want additional opinions, which I would naturally suggest.

It's not uncommon for a seller to ask the buyer to cover the transaction fees when using PP. However, I believe the actual fee is 2.9%, not 3.5%. The seller has excellent feedback, but go with your gut feeling.

I was also interested in the adcom mono's that he has, after after swapping a few e-mails,he was reluctant to provide any pic's or serial numbers,so I just walked away from that one, good luck.
