Speaker Cable Question

Hi,

I'm thinking of replacing my existing speaker cable particularly for my FR/FL speaker. The reason why I want to replace it is I would like to try experimenting on bi-amping with the same AVR (I read in some thread, it makes some difference).

My question is, will it matter if I have different type/brand of speaker for my front and surround? As much as I want to replace the surround speaker cable, I can't coz it's on the ceiling and would require a lot of work.

Any advise is appreciated.

    it wont matter, its more a personal thing. For example, if I buy one brand for the fronts, I get the urge to replace all with the same brand just make sure it all matches. You may notice an improvement in sound, try it out and post results. One thing to note, if you go with better quality cable then surely you will notice a difference, as in going from shoestring speaker wire to good 10awg cable.

    I would recomend the same gauge/brand of speak wire on your fronts and center.

    This is where the bulk of the dialog is coming from,the rear surrounds are not that critical...

    by all means go ahead and use different cables. But as mentioned be sure that all your mains use the same brand and size.
    I use kimber for my mains and AR for rears.
    I'm not sure as I don't know your receiver, but are you sure you can bi-amp with it? and you're not confusing this with bi-wire?

    Get the Biggest Speaker cable you can. Go down to the hardware store and tell them you want a one guage cable for your stereo, They'll fix you right up.

    Thanks for all the response, appreciate it.

    I've read the receiver manual (Denon AVR-2106) and does allow bi-amp by using the surround back power and assign it to FR/FL speaker. I will take note of the size and brand of the speaker cable and make it sure they are all same brand for FR/FL/CC.

    I personally dont think you'll get the big gains youre looking for by bi-amping off the receiver. You may notice a few extra DBs however you'll notice significant gains with a nice power amp. Just my 2 cents pal. :D

    I agree with the above about bi-amping off your AVR. but by all means giver a try.
    You will notice an improvement with good speaker cables and if you are to, buying an ext amp to power them.
