Rear port in speakers??
I am concidering purchasing a pair of monitor 40's. My question is these speakers have their air port in the rear. Since i would be using them as rear speakers they are wall mounted. This means that the backs of them would be flush against the wall in essence blocking the port...
Is this ok for the speaker? What other options are there??? Any advise.

Space them off the wall an inch or two.
Maybe put rubber feet on the back of them before hanging them.
That should help.Skynut

Just stuff the port with a foam plug, and you'll be fine.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Id get different speakers...
Plugging the port will remove all traces of low end that was there before...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I've got my monitor 30's against the wall and don't have a problem with this. They came with rubber feet on the back which creates a 1 inch space between the speaker and the wall. I don't know if the 40's have these feet, but if they don't it would be easy to put some on.

Who cares, he's using them for surrounds. Certainly better than the port chuffing against the wall.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
I like having bass in my surrounds - but I'm weird...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

The Monitor 30's are only 8 3/8 inches deep.
The Monitor 40's are quite a bit deeper at 12" deep.
Move them too far from the wall, and they'll be sticking out like Grandma's arm signaling for a left turn.
Those 30's also have a keyhole slot, made for wall mounting.
The 40's don't.
I don't know what your room setup is, but stands may be an option.
The 40's mounted out from the wall above a couch might make some folks a little paranoid.
If you get to the point of thinking about plugging the bass port, I think you ought to just drop down to the ol' cheapo R15's with the front-firing port.
We are talking surrounds here, so the main emphasis should be on the fronts and center.
And the R15's, while no Amazings, are ....well, kind of amazing for the price/size.
Used 4 R15's for side and rear surrounds at the daughter and S-I-L's, and for their basement setup, it sounds pretty nice for HT.
You do have a sub, I assume.Sal Palooza
