hey i had a question. say i have a denon a/v receiver and i were to use a stereo power amp from a brand such as rotel. i wouldnt be compromising any of the fidelity of the audio signal would i by passing it through the denon's preouts in the back? also does anyone have a legit reason to use either coax or optical cables for digital audio?

Yeah Jesse, how about answering the question and helping the poor guy, instead of busting his chops? You know exactly what he means. What would you call it?

Surf, I prefer Coax - if no other reason than there are two less conversions made to the digital signal (to light and back).

    Waaaaaaa.........

I cant tell the difference between the two, but then as you get older your hearing is only one of the things that goes!!!!!! But I like coax if I have to choose.

No you wont be hurting anything by using your pre-outs, in fact its pretty much highly recommended around here.

Oh snap Russ, I'll try to remember not to ask a legit question the next time.

Digital audio can refer to many types of formats these days, don't ya know and I wanted to know which one Surf was asking about.

    Snap?

You aren't hip enough to use a term like that. I know you weren't drunk, just seemed like an odd post for 3am....

Having the signal pass through the denon will affect the signal. Anything you put in the path will change it so if you bought a new pre-amp (or receiver) it would sound different. Whether it sounds better or not is up to you. Denon pre and rotel amp should work pretty well.

I'll also throw in another vote for coaxal. I prefer it simply because then I don't have to worry about bending a glass cable and possibly damaging it (and the signal). I can't really tell the difference between the two (among cables of the same quality) but I'd rather not have to convert the signal to something different for that short distance.

well how much you wanna spend? are you just looking for a 2 channel for your fronts.. or a multi-channel amp?

good ones would be.. Rotel, B&K, Adcom, Parasound, Marantz, Niles, and Outlawa as mentioned above.. the Adcom probably being the least expensive of all of them..
