HT speaker consultation
hey guys this is my first post on here.....wooohooo... anyway. i have currently rti70's for my front L/R and i upgraded from a samson stereo power amp to a denon avr-2106 just now (if you dont recommend this amp cus im about to return it and buy it online for a lot cheaper). as you can piece together i used to have a strictly 2 channel setup but i got sucked into the HT world after doing a lot of reading online so i am now contemplating what to get for my speakers to complete my 5.1 setup. im 95% sure that im going to get the csi5 since it sounds amazing and i cant find the cs40 anywhere online at all. for my surrounds i was thinking either the fx30 or the rti4 or possibly a model that would match my current rti70's like the rti38 or something of the sort? any ideas and would it be wise to get surrounds from another brand or is that a no go? i also need help on selecting a dvd player im not too familiar with what to look for other than progressive scan so any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance guys

Your possible choices for surrounds are all OK. If you plan to listen to music in surround sound, get one a pair of the matching speakers you mentioned. For HT, it's not as critical for the rear speakers to be timbre matched. Great choice on the Csi5, by the way.
For a DVD player, check out the Oppo 970 or 971. Csi40's come up for sale in our flea market, and on eBay, fairly often. The
CSi5 will work ok. I have Rti70's and use the CSi40's for centers, and FXi5's and FXi3's for surrounds. It sounds great! The RTi70's will take a lot of power, so buy the most powerful HT receiver you can afford. I originally ran mine with a Yamaha HTR-5660 and they sounded good. I now use 200 wpc of Outlaw M200 amplification, and they sound fantastic. Welcome to the forum and to HT.DKG999

well the denon is rated at 100 w per channel and from what ive heard from various sources denons are pretty respected with their ratings for that kinda stuff. right now i currently have a samson servo 550 with a little box to convert from -10 to +4 db and although the setup is i guess you could say "gehtto" due to the higher THD of .7 at peak power it really provides a ton of juice to my speakers and ive had no problem with it when i crank up the volume other than a couple noise complaints from neighbors and security (apartment complexes are not ideal for aspiring audio enthusiast. what other amp would you suggest instead of the denon 2106 or should i just get a seperate power amp to power my rti70's when listening in stereo mode? -
The Denon will be fine and will keep the peace in the apt building!DKG999
