This is an interesting concept..
Saw this linked-to over on the PE board. Speaker enclosures made of thin woods, "tuned" to vibrate constructively. Not cheap, though.

Very interesting. Here's the link if someone wants to fork over $2,000 to buy them...

One thing that struck me about these speakers is the sensitivity on them is 80 db. That's the lowest I've ever seen, so it'll take lots of power to get these things to sing.
Will the vibrating wood color the sound, especially at high SPLs? Probably distorts like hell, but I'm merely speculating.
They're small, too, so they may only be useful in a bedroom or office.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
