Saw this linked-to over on the PE board. Speaker enclosures made of thin woods, "tuned" to vibrate constructively. Not cheap, though.

As those things on that Dark Crystal movie say, "Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....."

    One thing that struck me about these speakers is the sensitivity on them is 80 db. That's the lowest I've ever seen, so it'll take lots of power to get these things to sing.

    Will the vibrating wood color the sound, especially at high SPLs? Probably distorts like hell, but I'm merely speculating.

    They're small, too, so they may only be useful in a bedroom or office.
