I know which ones to buy I want to save money by downsizing a bit and not sure what i can go down to. -
Do you want to keep the odometer accurate? You could vary the width and ratio and see if you can get cheaper tires. The only thing fixed in your setup is the wheels. I would guess you could go with 205/XX R16 where the XX could be anything from 35-75.
Personally, you should only be saving $40 at most so why not keep them the correct size? There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Wouldn't that be keep the speedometre correct ?
On our matrix we went down a couple sizes for our winters. I don't remember what the rule of thumb is. -

No rule of thumbs needed: http://www.tiredepot.com/calc.html
First number is the tire width, second is the ratio of sidewall to width, the third is your wheel diameter. If your standard tire is 215, it might be hard to go below 205. You might try 195/70 R16 or 205/70 R16. Both of these won't result in too much odometer descrepencies. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction.
