    Yeah, Yeah...

From what I understand, its made for FR drivers that roll off to soon and dont have enough high end...

I wouldnt do tweeter/super tweeter. I've always been kind of skittish of anything that said "Super" infront of it... lol

Would you need to design and install a crossover for whatever speakers you decided to use them for?

Also, I'm interested in hearing impressions of folks on the forum about the whole concept of supertweeters. Apparently, tweeters that extend beyond 20khz are supposed to be more emotionally involving even though you can't hear it. Any truth to that?

These super tweeters have a variable crossover and level control.

My experiments with some old Radio Shack super tweeters and my Abbeys (trying to emulate the Super Abbey's setup of Fostex FF165k main driver, T-96A Alnico rear firing horn tweeter, .33uf capacitor, and Fostex 8ohm L=pad attenuator) produced an enlarged soundstage with wider bandwidth. Use of such a tweeter, with a single driver design, also gives the main driver a lower natural resonance, which can extend the low end performance appreciably - driven with low power, SET amplification.

    YMMV

They have made, and still make, some excellent (super) tweeters and other drivers. Don't denigrate their full-range drivers 'til you've listened to them! Many are tremendous values for the money.

Madisound www.madisound.com has the full line-up of their drivers that are available in the US.

I guess I missed something here. Who's denigrating anything?

I've found no weight to that idea, but that's just me.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The fostex supertweeters are great for when you need high efficiency, but don't offer much else these days. Ring radiators can extend into the 40khz range just as well and have the advanage of a low range more in the 2khz area instead of 5khz. This makes it easier to incorporate them with most mid ranges.

So, if you've got a high efficiency system with an extended range driver that can reach 5khz, than a supertweeter is just the thing for you. Otherwise, there are better solutions.

    Maybe 'denigration' was too strong?

EDIT: oops, I inferred that he meant Fostex FR drivers that roll off to[o] soon... it doesn't say that, though. mea culpa
