speaker comparision

within the last year I purchased polk momo component speakers then they come out with the signature series if I upgrade whats different between the 2 other than price. I really love my existing speakers cant imagine getting much better.bruce.

    While I can't tell you what they sound like, I asked pretty much the same question a few months ago. I was told that the SRs are Polks top of the line. They use the same stuff from their top of the line home speakers in them. I have the MMC6500s(6 1/2) and I was told that the SR 5250(5 1/4) would even probably sound better.

    They dont use the same stuff as the LSi line of home speakers but theyre kinda similar.

    I went from Momo's to the SR's and I am here to tell ya, there is a night and day difference.

    Dont get me wrong, I dearly loved my Momos but the SR's are simply breathtaking.

    Once you get them broke in and dialed in right, youll see where your extra money went.

    The SR's have both smoother highs and midrange with the sweetest midbass around. They arent quite as detailed as the Momo's but they are more natural sounding.

    If you can, find a Tweeter or other local dealer and try to listen to some.

    I thought I heard and read that they used the same technology that they did for their LSi home speakers. Oh well, sorry if I misquoted anyone. I stand corrected. Either way, I wish I had the $$ to buy a set and put them in.

    How different does the DB series and MOMO sound? i am planning on getting DB for my car...for another $50 i can get MOMO though.

    any information is appreciated..

    Youre best bet is to run down to Circuit City with your favorite CD and give the DB's a listen and then cruise on over to Tweeter and check out the Momo's.

    Who knows, you may like the DB's better or you may like the Momo's better.

    Granted, soundrooms are the best places to audition speakers but they will give you a good idea of what they sound like.

    That would be the best thing to do. Sit there for a while and really listen, and don't let the sales people interrupt you.

    I had the MM6 speakers and no nearby dealer to demo the SR6500. I really enjoyed the MM6 but kept hearing glowing reviews of the SR6500. Finally after months of debate I took the plunge and purchased the SR6500. These are a significant upgrade to the MM6. Significant. After hearing the SR6500, I could not imagine listening to anything else in my truck. Their sonic qualities, their imaging, their bass response, are all amazing and much better than any other speaker in their price range.

    If you like your current Polks its almost a sure thing that you will love the SR6500. Purchase them from a dealer that allows returns to alleviate any concerns you may have. If you do not like them, you can always return them. The chances that you will not like them, however, are very slim.

    Aren't the SR's using the Vifa Ring Radiator Tweeter? (If yes, then that is the
    same driver used in the LSi series, I am sure the midbass is a different driver
    and I am certain the slopes and freq's in the XO are vastly different!)

    And yes, the Vifa Ring Radiator is heaven!

    Vifa makes the ring radiator tweeter but its not the same.

    Polk doesnt call up Vifa and say "send us 50,000 tweeters" and then stick them in their speakers. Polk designs them specifically for their application and then Vifa builds them according to those specs.

    Take the DB, Momo and SR mid. Polk makes all those but theyre all completely different.

    Mac,

    I'm fairly familiar with how speakers are built.. And there's a lot more "off the
    shelfing" than most would think.. I am not stating, factually that the ring
    radiator in the SR is indeed the same as the LSi, but assuming it's the same
    resistance, diameter and depth I would imagine it's the same basic driver
    assembly. There may be some custom tooling for the backside for mounting
    purposes.

    But like I said I am not stating anything, it may be a smaller driver, may be
    a larger driver I don't know the specs of each to make that call. I am just
    saying that it doesn't necessarily have to be a "different" driver.
