I have mentioned this in a few other threads, but have decided to just open it up. I have a pair of LSi7's (ebony - original style) for sale. They were my front speakers for about a year and were replaced with LSi15's last december.

Asking $350 + actual shipping for them. (pickup is fine - live in central Il.)

Will ship in original box. Very good condition, pics available on request.

I was asked the difference between the new and original style LSi speakers (The 7's I have for sale are the original style).

    1) If you look at the pics of my LSi's you can see an edge on the front and rear of the speaker that looks like the gloss side was folded over. The new style is smooth gloss all the way to the driver on the front and port/wire connections on the back.

    2) the colors are slightly different between the new and original style. I think the color difference is mainly in the cherry color. (I prefer the orignal cherry color though - less red) I think the ebony is very similar in color, but the new ebony LSi are more "matte finish" while the older ebony LSi have a slight "sheen" to the panels. To be honest I have not see them next to each other.

    3) the sides are glued on in the new style and cannot be removed. The original style they were taped on and can be removed if you work at it. (click on the link in my sig to see my rear LSi7's in gloss black.) The 7's I am selling were my front speakers (replaced by LSi15's) and the sides have never been removed on them.

    4) There were no functional or sonic differences between the original and new style - all changes were cosmetic.

    Michael

Edit - added color change for black panels (thank Joey...:))

I've run the LSi7's off two different recievers without any problems. Do they sound better with an external amplifier? Yes. However, they will definelty sound better than the M series you are using now.

As a matter of fact, I ran the 7's off a Yamaha RX-V2092 and another Yamaha receiver and never had any problems, even at high levels.

I wouldn't worry too much about them.

MSALLA, I did get your PM, but see what you can work out with Michael as well.

The 7's are the easiest of the series to run. (actually closer to a 6 ohm load.)

If you are mainly going to run the 7's you will probably be fine. If you are running the 7's, 15's and an LSiC - I wouldn't recommend it on a mid grade avr. (if you have a high end AVR - you will still be fine)

I guess what we are asking is what electronics are you running and what do you see the end speaker system looking like?

I've got a Yamaha RX-V2500. I don't know that I'd call it high end but it's 130 wpc @ 8ohm. They did give it a 4 ohm rating but i can't remember what it is.

I'm going to call a freind of mine who is an audio nut case for his input. I'll let you know.

I saw the receiver you were using in your signature, and I think you will be okay using the 7's. Again, if you are going to be adding the 15's and a center, then you might want to upgrade to a higher quality receiver later, but I think you will be okay if you stick with the 7's.

The RX-V2500 is a fairly nice receiver, and I imagine it would handle the LSi7's fine. It won't drive them to their potential, but I don't foresee any problems. However, if/when you get LSi9's and an LSiC, you'll need to do something else.

Actually that reciever is rated farily well into a 4 ohm load. Its power drops by almost 50% when you put two channels on it instead of just one though. I think it will run your future setup just fine, but at limited volumes. Be careful turning it up to loud or the peaks of movie soundtracks may be enough to clip the amp and speaker (tweeter) damage may result.

Running a decent powered sub will help by moving the bass load off the amp. When you are done, even just moving the 9's off will help (with a decent 2 channel amp.)

Just to let the prospective buyer know... I had the LSi9 and the LSi7 in 4.1 configuration and I had them all running off a Harman Kardon AVR-330. It's rated at 55 watts/channel and I know it's less beefy than the Yamaha 2500.

Well, guess what? The HK ran the LSi speakers just fine. Of course, it was never as coherent as when I started going separates, but it was able to pump out loud volumes for movie watching.

    You'll be fine... buy Mike's LSi7!

IMHO, no. I had the RTi6's and LSi7's and demoed them using the same receiver. The 7's sounded better to me in almost every respect.
