wiring extra speakers w/surroundbar

I just bought the Surroundbar and would like to wire in an extra pair of rear surround speakers for the back of the room as discreet noise. I have a Sony STR-DE698 rcvr but cant seem to get the speakers going. The SurroundBar works fine, and I have tried wiring the extra speakers into the surround jacks that the Surround bar uses on the rcvr. Still no luck. Thanks for any advice.
