Just wanted to mention an observation. I'm not sure how much truth there is to it. It could be in my head. Here's a synopsis.
  • Upgraded to a 990/7500 stack and my LSi set sounded amazingly clear. Dialogue in movies, music, whatever. The LSi's sounded great.
  • Moved into an apartment full of hard surfaces and felt like I lost clarity. I also turned on Theatre Compensation 100% of the time to tame some harshness.
  • Started experimenting with crossover settings since dialogue was hard for me to hear, especially soft dialogue.
  • By setting the center-channel crossover way high, to 150hz, dialogue is awfully easy to hear now.
I can only think of two things.
  • One, I've lessened the strain on the LSiC to make it even a better sounding speaker. But, it sounded great in the old apartment. Maybe by improving its performance I have helped a little.
  • Two, I've removed some frequencies from the center (60-150Hz) and placed them on the sub so there is now less direct data in that range to come out of the center and reflect on walls therefore muddy'ing up the dialogue.
I don't know, I could be really making assumptions. I know room treatments would be the best bet, but I won't be living here long so I don't want to spend the money. All I know is I can hear dialogue much better now, so I'm happy. I thought others might find this info useful (or if it makes no sense, misleading :D).
