Model 10 vs Monitor Series 10B

Hello, I have a chance to get a pair of Polk Audio Model 10's
I have a pair or Monitor Series 10b's and I was hoping to get a matching pair but I just talked to the owner of the model 10's and he tells me that on the back of the cabs in the middle is a sticker that says Polk Audio Model 10
Are these the same as the Monitor Series. Also there is a fuse on the back of his whereas my 10b's dont have that.

There are different drivers and a different tweeter in 10's vs a 10B. As you discovered the 10B also has a polyswitch for tweeter protection vs the fuse for the 10's. These won't be an exact sound match.:( Both models sound great!Carl

Cool, Thanks for the info. I am going to stack them so they should sound great. I am currently using a Sansui 9090 pushing a pair of 10b's and RTA12B's. Looks like I will move the RTA's to the room with my Pioneer SX1050 until my 1250 is recapped.
I am getting them for $50.00 by the way. Pretty good price I think dont you?

Great price, but a terrible way to use 2 sets of great sounding speakers. To each their own but stacking speakers usually results in poor sound.

Good price and good gear behind it...enjoy! I'm personally not a big fan of stacking but whatever pisses off the neighbors is cool by me.

The Model 10 was the first iteration of the "Monitor 10" line. Before they actually called them Monitors. They're the oldest 10's you'll find, but still worthy speakers. They may have uncoated passive radiators, and the grills will likely be stuck on with velcro instead of the plastic pin things on later models.Ludicrous gibs!

I would really advise against that with the electronics you are going to be using. Most 10's are a 6 ohm load, so in parallel you would have about 3 ohms. Difficult load for many new amps, and may cause a meltdown for your vintage 9090.

Maybe...wesley, do you have the 9090 or the 9090DB? The latter runs in series so you'd be ok...9090 runs in parallel which probably wouldn't work at anything above mid-low volume. They are tough, but not that tough.
I guess you could always give it a try...if it goes into protection, you'll know for sure. -

Aside from all the other ideas about why....why in the first place?
The RTA12 is a better speaker. If it was a Mon7 or Mon5...the Monitor line is almost a wash in that respect. The day I suggest stacking speakers, is the day I climb the short bus.
If the current speaker isn't producing the soundstage you expect, how about doing something crazy....like finding the right speaker?
The stacking of traditional loudspeaker is just dumb. Stack Quads, not Polks.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
