If I saw Pluto on the street, I'd be all like ""
And he'd be all like " "

    And I'd be like " :D "

And then he'd be all like ":( "

And then I'd lick his tears....
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

A "dwarf planet"? If I was a dwarf, I would be pissed after living on earth all these years and find out I've actually got another place to call home.

Hey Mac, I mostly agree with you about studying the cosmos, as I tried to make clear. But all this nonsense about Pluto IS just arguing semantics, that's why id on't like it. Like I said, there's SO MUCH to learn, and these guys sit in debate rooms and argue over whether Pluto needs a different TITLE?? It's not like they made this huge discovery, and said "oh, wait, this isn't a planet." That would be completely normal. No, this has been YEARS of DEBATE between two factions, all about this one planet(oid). As someone said, they're just trying to get their names in a book somewhere rather than trying to do some real discovery.

I love science, I want us to learn as much as we possibly can, and then learn some more. I'm sure we could learn a lot from going to the moon again, but we haven't, and if it was that important people woudln't wait for the government to step up but find some private funding for their studies, like most other scientific studies. So obviously scientists feel there are more importantt hings to do with their time. Like reclassify Pluto... :)

I hear ya but it was more than just debating over terms.

When they first discovered Pluto it was the only thing out there at its distance that was also its size, plus it had a moon so it was obviously a planet.

Then the more they learned about its orbit, they learned it orbited more along the lines of an asteroid and its moon is about the same size as it is.

Eventually, they started finding asteroids that resembled Pluto rather closely but were obviously asteroids and not planets although they were enormous asteroids.

The more they learned about the Kuiper Belt which is a region that starts about the orbit of Neptune and is made up mostly of debris, asteroids and other large chunks of rock. So the more they learned, they learned that Pluto is just a really big asteroid and not a planet. Its very small, orbits with other asteroids and doesnt dominate gravitationally within its orbit.

For science to work, they have to have a consensus on definitions and what things are. If you have one guy calling it a planet and another calling it an asteroid and another calling it a comet, things can get confusing rather quickly.
