:) I just pulled the trigger on the new Odyssey Candela tube linestage preamplifier. the circuit design is based on a Mu follower concept.it uses ECC 82/12 AU7 tubes. the Candela is designed for ultrawideband frequency responce, linearity, low distortion and low output impedence.it operates in a class A single ended configuration with zero feedback. parts are from Sonicap, Vishay, Alps etc. i ordered mine with an Alps blue velvet remote volume control. it also has four sets of inputs and a HT bypass.i am not sure of the price yet ,i just told Klaus to build me one A.S.A.P. thanks....WCW III

Awesome! Congrats man. I really like the 12AU7 tube. Great sound and plenty of different ones to roll. So how long will the wait (torture?) be?

:) Hey organ, i dont know how long it will take but i think the waiting list is pretty long.Alex at Odyssey voiced the Candela using a pair of mono extreme SEs just like mine so i think the synergy with this preamp in my system should be really sweet ! thanks....WCW III

I'm sure it will definitely be worth the wait. I mean, you're getting a pre voiced for your amps....Damn! Keep us posted and show some pics when it's ready. I'm very interested to see how this pre amp is going to look.

Good move WCW!! Let us know if you find it to be an improvement over some of the previous 12AX7 based preamps you have used. I might have to try one myself if it is.

You can save money on tubes with a mu-follower design.

I don't know if the remote and HT bypass are part of that pricing. Klaus is famous for allowing mods and add-ons for just a little more. He will do just about anything for the customer to sell a piece.

Hey Russ, i think the projected price was eight ninety five but when Klaus took a hard look at cost increases on the materials i am pretty sure that the Candela sells for somewhere around a Grand and the remote option is maybe another $300.00 more but i never bothered to ask.great build quality and a 20 year warranty and the best customer service in the business makes it hard for me to resist. i have been thru five preamplifiers in the past three years and i think number six probably wont be the last....thanks...WCW III

I recall Klaus mentioning a $1200 price tag.
i just back tracked Klaus's posts and on April 11 he posted that he could not afford to sell one for $895 and that the Candela would sell for $1000 even.Klaus does not have a factory and there are no shelves full of amps or preamps .everything he makes is built by hand one at a time.and if you were to want special parts installed like different capacitors say maybe blackgates for example, he would install them for the cost difference while he is building it.$1000 is cheap in my opinion when you consider what you get for your money. thanks....WCW III

There is a very tight following in the Klause/Odyssey camp. So tight that they have come to expect problems with blinders and a shrud of the shoulders.
Although Odyssey as a whole has recieved numerous 5 star ratings for their value, a little deeper dig will prove that Klaus gear is very prone to problems only to be masked by Klaus' great customer service.
Many high end manufactures have great customer service as well...you just don't hear about it as much as Odyssey because most of these amps and pre-amps never break down or run into problems where you have no choice but to rely on their customer service.

    Oh, I almost forgot.
Hey Russ...one of Klauses kool-aid drinkers called you out. Man up!

    9'er,

I don't sweat the small stuff. I was actually excited when William got the BAT in the mix and stepped up to the high fidelity plate. I don't doubt the Candella peice sounds decent, but that damn glowing tube window (LED enhanced no doubt). Klaus should be ashamed. Screams cheesy Asian grey-market, regardless if it is or not.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Hey Russman, in regard to your keen observation, i think Luxman beat the cheesy Asian grey market by a few decades .Klaus would no doubt care less about your opinion.he makes his own way in this world. in other words he does not work for his Mommy which allows him to hold the world record for making posts on Club Polk! .thanks....WCW III

You're a funny little man William - sorry my opinion doesn't gel with yours. I never said anything about build or sound (actually the opposite), just it's appearance and the constant ravings about Klaus, Klaus, Klaus. Again, my opinion. It's your gear, if you dig it, rock on - but don't expect the world to smother you in accolades because of it.

What does a family business and post count have to with an ugly preamp? I know the answer, nothing - which is exactly what is in your big bag.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Agreed, there is no free lunch in any venue. While there is gear that performs above it's price point and there are true giant killers out there.......there is very little out there that demands blind devotion.

I think Klaus is a great guy trying to do his customers right...

But it goes over board when you own his amps, speakers, preamps, cables - thats just...well...boring...

I could easilly see myself owning the amp and preamp. But - all of the same brand is a yawner for me...

I personally like the look of this pre...

I admit i am Guilty as charged, but everyone who has ever listened to my two channel rig is amazed at how good it sounds. i aspire to and will own other high end gear. i am in the market for an Audio Aero Prima CD Player, Audio Physic loudspeakers and maybe a BAT VK 30 SE preamplifier. the gear i am using now has great synergy and i didnt have to take out a second morgage to pay for it.i also have never had a problem one with any piece of Odyssey gear with the exception of a midbass driver in one of my Loreleis which was made by Scanspeak in Denmark.i am very happy with my system and if you were to listen to it i think you would know why. thanks....WCW III
