I don't post in the vintage section very often and hell I don't even know if 1984 is vintage, and I know its Bose but I got these and mismatched set of Pioneer floor standers for 25 bucks at a yardsale outside some storage buildings down the road from my house. I hooked them up to an old pioneer tuner and reciver I was not using and they didn't sound all that bad. Just wondered what some of folks thought about them.

I personally burn every pair of Bose speakers I find at yard sales and flea markets...as long as they can be bought cheap.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Gee thanks, oh well i'll find something to do wth them. And its not so much that I care what others think, just wanted to kinda get an idea of what some the other folks here that had heard them in the past thought of them. I'm probably cutting my own throat saying this but I'm not a Bose basher like most of the folks here. I know that there stuff is way over priced I would never buy any of it new but some of it sounds pretty good to me . Although I don't care for the little cube systems that they put out now.

I've heard much worse speakers in my travels and they do diffuse the sound pretty well for such a simple design...that better?

If you want to try some Bose speakers, try the 501s or 601s. They were they only ones I ever thought fairly highly of, ymmv. They blow the 901s away, imo. I do know alot of 901 fans, but I just never dug the 901s and I've heard them on top notch gear, too. But for $25 dollars, if the 201s are in good shape, that's a fair deal for some garage speakers.;) :p

I think bose 201's and especially 301's make for fantastic pub and bar speakers. But not for critical listening.

I sold audio in the mid '80s and we carried Bose...never sold many of them. I thought the 301s were OK, but didn't like the 201s much, my recollection is they weren't much for full range ("No highs, no lows, must be Bose"). Sorry, but you asked.

Then again, we weren't selling them for $25...
