I agree with a lot of the posts, but I think my favorite album of all time is the Counting Crows - August and Everything After. A great debut album for a virtually unknown band and even though people complain about Adam Duritz's incessant whining, he is a great musician and a phenomenal live performer.

After being burned by 8-tracks, my CD collection mainly consists of "Best Of"/"Greatest Hits"/"**** Years". But I do have 2 albums, because they are best played in their entirety (perfect albums):

Pink Floyd - DSOTM (of course)
    Black Sabath - Black Sabath
    Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70

If you were to close your eyes and imagine the sound, you would see a guy singing and playing guitar in the bakground and maybe some other instruments. the rest would be black. That is the only way I can put it, EVERYTHING is discernable.

Good call! Kinda like Cowboy Junkies/ Trinity Sessions.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Definitely Who's Next, Sgt. Pepper's, and probably Revolver and Abbey Road.

How about American Beauty (well, maybe not 'attics of my life')

AOXOMOXOA would be there, too, if not for 'what's become of the baby?" :-O

Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Girl is right up there, too, IMO.

Steely Dan's first album Can't Buy a Thrill and AJA are pretty perfect, but then, so were most of their classic albums.

Hmm... gonna have to give this some thought...

Ah, Carol King's "Tapestry"...... what an album !!!

Black Sabbath's second album .... "Into the Void".

Turn the lights down, play it through......"Planet Caravan" defines the word "melancholy".
When the album gets to the title track, "Into the Void", strap in and crank it up. When the neighbors complain, tell them to go **** themselves, that you're playing it the way God would have you play it.

I enjoy most of the songs on Collective Soul's Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid, but the sound quality on several of the songs is horrendous. If I remember correctly, part of the reason is that some of the songs were recorded in an actual garage with somewhat primative gear. The record company just used some of the same stuff Ed Roland brought in for demos.

Other than that, I would have to add:

    Beck Odelay
    Tschüss
    Zach

Not sure which BS album you're spinning...

Paranoid was their second release and Master of Reality, their 3rd, ends with "Into the Void", but does not include a track titled "Planet Caravan"...

    Perhaps one of their compilations???

I actually logged on and did a search for "Master of Reality" just so that I could correct that mistake. :o

...good call, Tour2ma, "Planet Caravan" was the 3d song on their 2nd album, "Paranoid".

The song right before "Into the Void", "Solitude" is another melancholy masterpiece (On their 3d album, "Master of Reality").

Whew, now I can go to be with a clear conscious.
I guess that's a sign I'm getting old, getting Black Sabbath tracks and albums mixed up. :)

BTW, a good Black Sabbath site is:

    http://www.black-sabbath.com/

    Discographies, concert photos, etc.

Looked up the concert date for my first Sabbath concert, but there weren't any concert photos: July 21, 1972. San Diego Convention Center.
    Whew ! :) :)

I like to use Dada "Puzzle" to audition speakers.

I will have to agree also with

    Dark Side of the Moon
    Unforgettable Fire
    Counting Crows August and Everything
    Aja
    Rush
    James Taylor

    I will add

    Peter Weller
    Donald Fagen Night Fly
    Paul Westerburg and/or The Replacements
    Train
    The Connells
    Dishwalla
    The Clarks

And songs from a couple of the bands I played in, because I know what everything saounded like or was supposed to sound like.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D
