FS/FT: Rotel RCD-991 AE CD Player

I'd like to trade this disc player for a turntable of equal used value, but would entertain offers if someone were really looking for this particular model.

I don't know a LOT about this unit as I bought it off a local audio nerd a couple of years back. It seems to be somewhat rare and generally well regarded, but I can't tell you too much about it other than it has HDCD decoding, a variable dither setting and balanced outs. It was Rotel's flagship player for a short while.

These folks seem to know something about it:

I'm in Annapolis and don't have the original box, so I'd prefer a "local" trade. I do have the remote and MAYBE the manual, though I'm not 100% sure on that.

Thanks for looking!

Maybe. I'd go for something much cheaper if I were just looking for a transport, but that's just me.

    How much kind sir?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

eh...yeah, that's the question I'm trying not to answer. I think if I were to sell it, I'd probably go the auction route and let the market dictate it's value.

There is a non-AE version on Audiogon right now for 500 dollars.

    Sorry to be vague!

    Two questions:

Where is Audiophile Hell? (sorry about your situation)

Is it the Denon DP59L with Shure V15 Type 5 in your profile? Seems like a nice enough table. Are you getting out of vinyl?

The Audiogon one has sat for 29 days with a price.....not looking too good for you without a price.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

True. However, this is the AE version of that player...the one on Audiogon is not. I've seen conflicting reports as to what the difference between the two is. I may email Rotel just to finally satiate my curiosity.

audiophile hell is where all audiophiles end up when they run out of money to support the need to keep upgrading and replacing perfectly good audio equipment.

    I currently have 5 turntables including 2 denon dp59l.
I would be wiiling to trade 1 of my denon dp59l for the rotel.

I just bought my first home not too long ago, so all I can afford is trades :) Upgrade is a word I'm trying not to learn.

I will send you a PM. Thanks!

Not to hijack the thread, but what other TT's do you have, and would you be willing to part with one of them?

As I couldn't determine a real market value, I am trying an Audiogon auction:

    http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?dgtlplay&1156900526

Reserve is at 450, and I'd take $450 for it, but I'm just going to see what happens.

So what happens when you specifically say US ONLY in your auction and someone from Russia bids?

That's the plan...I didn't know if there was some sort of formal process that you had to go by to explain why you didn't sell to the highest bidder.
