Just buy 5 of them, put one on it's side for the Center speaker and you'll have a great 5.1 setup :)

Or, just have him use them in 2-channel stereo, as they were obviously intended. Adding any other speakers to it would be counterproductive.

    Thanks Joe,

I'm only home for a short time but... I've never used them in my HT system and don't have an answer to your first question. I'll see what I can do about some more pictures. My camera broke so I don't have one of my own at this time and Geri's camera is with her at a 250th event (where I'm headed) and we won't be back until next Monday. It might not be until next weekend.

If I were to do HT with these, I would use a pair or pairs of ALIIIs for surround duty and wing it for a center. But then again, I would expect to get my **** kicked for using these as HT speakers.

This is both a bump and a price reduction from $1,000 to $900 for CP members only for now.

    (To Geri, sorry honey...)

I do know a gentleman that is using a PAIR of Carver Amazing Platinum MK.IV's for every position in a 5.1 channel HT rig. Ten Amazing Platinums in the same room. 40 X 12" woofers, and he's STILL using a couple big M&K subs to round out the bottom end.

Speak your mind Vanhool. I do.

    Hi Bob! Love to Geri.

    George,

Have you had a chance to sit in and listen to said system?

Nope. It's way up in Vermont. The guy drove down here to hand deliver me a Carver C-19 preamp (the tube job). Little did I know that he was going to try and pry the Amazings out of me. He didn't realize that he needs to look a lot more like Jenny McCarthy to accomplish that.

Actually, it was hilarious. Before we even got into the room where The He-Man Rig is, we were sitting at my kitchen table just talking. Him, his traveling companion, and me. It gets quiet, they look at one another, then back at me and I hear, "So exactly WHAT is it going to take to get you to part with one pair of your Amazings?" It all became very clear to me right then and there and I busted out laughing. Hard laughing. You should've seen their faces when I told them that I only owned one pair of Amazings, and the chances were slim and none. They were under the impression I had multi-pair of C.A.L.s At least he got to sell me the preamp.

    Hi Bob! Love to Geri.

Hi George, Geri sends her love back to ya.
She doesn't want the CAs to go anywhere but I've had my fun with them and really have no place to store them (or the 2.3s) when switching back and forth between them. I've got too much time and money into the 2.3s and I like them just as much so it's the CAs that will move on. I've got $1,100 invested in the CAs (and I picked them up) so I'm not making a dime on them. On the contrary.

No experience with the unit (nor any tube amps) for me to answer. They are a bit difficult to drive... Anyone?

Madmax may have a better perspective on this, but I'll venture to say no.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

power wise i dont think it would be a danger, I would check if that Jolida is cool with low impedance though.

arent the original amazings 4 ohms (dipping even lower at times) as oppossed to the 8 ohm platinums? From what I gather, the originals seem like a much more difficult load than the platinums are. but I could be wrong

If all you're going to listen to is Kenny G or smooth jazz it might work. Anything more demanding and you need a tad more roast beef.

The 801A's secondaries can be configured for a 4ohm load but the CAs are only moderately sensitive.

UGH! I want these in a bad way but I have no place to put them right now! I'd make the drive too!

Mebbe if I beg the wife she'll let me clutter up the place a bit with 6 foot tall speakers?

Man thats a great price. If I were closer I would get them just out of principle. Seriously, anyone who wants some outstanding speakers and is within driving distance, I know you can find the cash to swing these.

Geri's in Florida right now and thus can't shoot me, errr, at least not yet anyways... But good lord man, I can't even get to my bar right now 'cause they're in the way! I don't want to unbolt the 2.3's and put the CA's back in for the winter if I'm letting them go and not the 2.3s (and then the 2.3s are in the way anyways) and I really don't want to have to put them into storage so this actually is a CRAZY price. Why, I feel like CRAZY EDDIE! Ok, so maybe not...:p

I'm workin' it. She keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. I might just forgoe the other electronic goodies I wanted and tell her these. If I have to, I'll grab them and store them for a bit until I can figure out how to cram them into my apartment. Gotta find decent power for them though.

UGH! Too many decisions! Not enough time and money! Good thing that I got a butt-ton of OT coming up at work!
