Using BOTH on-board and External Amp

Question. If you have a receiver with pre-outs that are looped back into the main IN of the on board amp, how do you use both the receivers amp and another seperate?

Is there some sort of box or something you need as a splitter so you can go back into the receiver AND something else?

Seems like a waste of power to just take the pre-outs into something else and forget about the receivers amp.

If i understand what you're talking about you are meaning to use an external amp and the internal amp to bi-amp speakers? If this is the case you should be able to run the pre-outs to an external amp and then speaker wire from the amp to the lows or highs of you speaker. Then run speaker wire directly from your reciever speaker outputs(the same outputs you used for the pre-out usually front l/r) to the high/low or your speaker. This is using the power from your reciever to push the highs/low(usually high) of your speaker and the external amp to push the lows.

You can pick up a splitter at radioshack, wallmart, target, bestbuy, cicuit city,ETC... It is just a y adapter with rca/phono conectors on each end

Are you sure the receiver does not send power its amps when using the pre-outs?

Sounds like he's talking about the kind of intergrated that has the shorting bars going from pre-out to main-in. Anyhow, the y-splitter mentioned above will work fine.
