Anyone else out there in IT land dealing with this? Its a pain. Our company has over 250+ possibly bad batteries. I guess they've -only- had 7 fires, and are recalling approx. 4.1 million batteries.
Anyway, if you have a Dell laptop, you may want to check here:
Identify your battery
Dude, your laptop is on fire

man... SEC probe, exploding laptops. Dell has been in the crapper lately, I almost feel sorry for them
At least they are going to start selling AMD desktops soon -
The batteries are made for Dell by Sony. Sony will take the hit.polkaudio SRS (rdo194 x 8)

Dell's stock price has already taken the hit. The average Joe isn't going to care who made the battery, the name on the cover of the laptop says Dell and its Dell's 1-800 they are going to have to call.
Does Dell actually "make" anything? They just source all the components, put it together, and slap a Dell logo on it. -
I'm not so sure Sony will take a hit. They're the same cells IBM/ Lenovo uses (like in a T60), and they don't have the issue. Yet, anyway.

Maybe so but they (Dell) are not buying 4 million more batteries alone.

That's a good article. It does look like the Sony name will be more involved than I thought. It boils down to a pain in my day...

We're making plans for replacement here at my company. I suspect around 200.No excuses!

I've got 3 Dell laptops. One is affected and the other 2 are not. Already on the list for a replacement. I don't blame Dell, Sony is the one that screwed up."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
Sony can't afford anymore hits against them.

Noone really screwed up if the failure rate is above the Six Sigma standards did they? It looks like they need a failsafe shutdown for shorting since the flaw can't be totally eliminated in manufacturing. Batteries are a danger by nature.

Hard to avoid bad press when there are pictures like this floating around:
