2 channel tuner/preamp suggestions

I'm currently using a piece of shite insignia 2-channel amp as my tuner/preamp to an adcom GFA-545II feeding my RTA's. This thing sounds like a piece of #(#%.


I'm looking around, not sure where I should better spend my money. I need a 2-channel preamp/selector. Some ideas I'm batting around are as follows:

Adcom GFP 450/555/560 something like that
ROTEL RTC-850 or something


I'm really not sure... I figure an adcom will probably go with my adcom pretty good... I'm shooting for a $<=500 ebay range.

    My Nad 917 has a much better tuner than my Rotel 940ax.

    hmm.. .I'm not so much interested in the tuner ability as I'm needing mainly a preamp for my cd / phono / computer inputs. Radio stations around here moderately suck anyhow... so I'm really just looking for something that sounds the best overall

    Marantz now makes an AM/FM/XM tuner...very cool.

    The Rotels are known to have less problems than some of the Adcom pre's.
    There is a Rotel RSP980 pre on EBAY item 320017609758.

    How about carver preamps, does anyone have any luck with them? For example a Carver C-1?

    edit: even a CT-7 or something?

    Sax, I have an NAD 1155 preamp that is in pristine condition that I am currently not using. It was the top of the line preamp from NAD at the time and is known to be very quiet. It doesn't have a tuner, but is suppossed to have an excellent phono stage. I have not actually used it, it was a piece that I picked up at one time with other pieces since the price was right. Perhaps someone has some personal knowledge/use. I read up on it and it seems to be well regarded. You would still need a seperate tuner.
