cable/interconnect run lenghts

In considering placement of A/V components, at what length does one start to loose sound quality in speaker cables and interconnect cables, assuming decent quality and gauge? (not including the sub.)

The guage of the wire determines what you might want to use depending on how long the run is for your speakers.

Then you might consider the rated capicitance of the wire, the lower the better, then you have the voltage output of the component involved, I assume you are talking unbalanced rca connections for your interconnects.

I was quite suprised to find when I contacted the maker of one of my higher end pre's that he said the unit could drive an unbalanced interconnect 20ft. with no problem. I am not necessarily recommending that but it is what he said.

Some folks want the shortest speaker wire possible and will place mono blocks adjacent to the speaker, others feel differently, I try to keep everything as short as possible within reason I can tell you I have used 2-3 meter connects with no SQ problems.

Uni, as to speaker wiring, as long as an adequate gauge of lampcord is used, considering the length of the run and the impedance of the speakers, no significant effect on sound quality occurs. For a good explanation of speaker wire in general and a table of suggested lengths in particular study this article by a veteran audio professional.

As to interconnects, the usual coaxial cable with gauges running in the 18-26 area can be run over a hundred feet without significant losses at the frequencies used in audio, so this isn't a cause for concern at the run distances ordinarily used in the home.

Make note, the fatal flaws noted above. Lampcord as speaker wire and 18-26 gauge generic wire for interconnects.

John, no one here is buying your crapola. Please just suck up inside your little mind and stay on the Axiom forum.
